Transmission not wanting to shift when I first get start

Had my transmission cooling lines replaced last week due to them leaking. Since I got my jeep back it doesn't want to shift correctly till after I drive it about a quarter of a mile. Then it shift like it should. When I start off the RPM's go high the shift rather aggressively. After I get about a 1/4 mile down the road it smooths out and I don't have any issues after that. Also it seemed to jump out of reverse while backing down my driveway one time but this was just a single instance. I've seen where you guys have talked about checking the transmission fluid, my question would be does that need to be done first thing when I start the engine up or after it has ran for a while?

Thanks

It would have to be while running, warmed up (like temp gauge is around 200ish), and the Jeep MUST be in neutral. Then check the fluid, if its low add fluid in small increments until you reach the max fill line. Also between fillings and with your foot on the brake, run the shifter through all the gears and back to neutral again. That makes sure there fluid in all the right places and your getting the most accurate reading on the dipstick.

So, I checked the transmission fluid and it checked fine. I took it back to the mechanic that fixed the transmission cooling lines and he is telling me that I need to take it to a transmission specialist. That the believes my transmission is going out. I had no issues until he fixed the cooling lines. He said that maybe the cold weather is affecting it now. I just bought the jeep about two months ago. Did I just buy someone else's problem or is this guy feeding me a line of bull.
