I've done some searching but can't seem to find this exact issue. When I place my 2003 TJ into park, about 75% of the time it won't engage the parking gear all the way. I can't remove the key.
If I press the transmission handle button and place it back into drive, then back into PARK and let the transmission shifter button snap out, it usually will finally engage the parking gear. Also, if the vehicle rolls a little bit I will hear a slight click and it will go fully into park and I can remove the key.
Once the transmission has fully engaged the PARK position, everything works as it should...key comes out and wheel locks.
This doesn't happen every time I place it in PARK. Sometimes it will go for days working right, then it will go for days having to reengage the shifter (sometimes several times) to get it to click and let me remove the key.
Any ideas where to look to fix this?
