Luckily, that very same week I found a brand new, installed but never used, ARB RD116. A whopping $500. Back to Hosejockey's garage.

This wasnt exactly an easy install. A lot of trial and error with shims, pinion depth, etc...Luckily Hosejockey has done a number of these. It was a major learning experience for me.

It wasnt long after this I was dealt a handful of mechanical issues. The jeep died, wouldnt start until it sat for 15 min, then finally died completely. It wouldnt turn over, it woudnt fire, just as if someone pulled the key. The previous owner installed some sort of aftermarket alarm, I have had issues in the past with it and decided to test it. After prodding around I found that it had a bad relay. This was causing my issues it seemed. I pulled it out completely. It was a bit of time and I hated every bit of it.

It ran well for about a day, then I was dealt a misfire code. And again, the jeep died and would not turn over. After several attempts and prodding around with a multimeter, (over the course of a month a half) I ending up replacing the CPS sensor, CAM sensor (same code on early model TJs), new coil, plugs/wires/distributor cap and rotor. Only to still be dealing with the no start issue. I finally decided to purchase a new ECM from ebay. When I went to pull the old unit I found out my main wiring harness that feeds the CPS/CAM sensors had become unseated somehow. Plugged it back in, and havent had an issue since (Over 15k miles to date). I returned the PCM and was refunded my money.

2016 was a rough year for me. One month later as I was adding windshield washer fluid I noticed my coolant reservoir was dry.
I had developed a small leak on top of the radiator. I opted for a new mopar unit from wermopar. While everything is out, I decided to go ahead and purchase a new water pump, thermostat and housing, and hoses. Just a few days later, my lower radiator blew at work. Luckily, I had everything already delivered to my office. I began the replacement in the parking lot.

Engine coolant makes a mess when it leaks onto a spinning fan

93k miles and 19 years old. I couldnt be to upset

I took my time removing the old gasket, well over an hour with a razor. Once it was back up and running I experienced 0 leaks. Job well done.

In February of 2017 I added a new head unit. The PO had an old sony installed and my guess is from the early 00's. It sat in the dash crooked, presets no longer worked, and power for my polk speakers was not there. I am no audiophile so a basic upgrade did just fine.

In May 2017 I made a random purchase, one of the easier mods Ive done! The shafts come assembled already minus the studs. Installed those and torqued to 90 ft/lbs. Remove the 4 nuts holding the backing plate on your old shaft, and slide out. Slide in the new shaft and reinstall with the new backing plate

April 2017, I had several ebay bucks laying around so I used them on a set of bestop seat covers. I like them, they form to the seat incredibly well and are very easy to clean.

Late May of 2017. My ball joints have been shot at this point for quite awhile. I went with a set of spicers. I thought while everything is apart I would go ahead and replace the unit bearings. At 100k they have got to be close to the end of their life. I went with a Timkens from RockAuto. I borrowed a few tools (Including the OTC ball joint tool) from jjvw and UnlimitedLJ04, and got everything replaced in a day. Following the write up on Stu Offroad it was a pretty painless process. The longest and hardest part was just trying to figure out how to use the darn press. Ball joints make a world of difference. Switching between surfaces (hwy to bridge expansions for example) and it was like driving a brand new jeep

Mid June of 2017 and I found what I think was a heck of a deal on a dana30 axle out of an 02. What peaked my interest was that it had Alloy chromo shafts, currie mini skids, ARB RD100 locker with associated wiring, plumbing, newer ball joints, new bushings, new bearings, and poison spyder bombshell cover (not my first choice but better than stock). I picked it up as soon as it was posted

Ill skip a lot of issues I had with this, but essentially after install I was experiencing a very strong and heavy vibration from about 55 to 75. I played with pinion angles for months. Finally I gave up and brought it to a professional. They stated the pinion depth was wrong, and there was an oil slinger (maybe baffle?) That shouldnt have been in there. They rebuilt it and my vibes finally disappeared.

Late November 2017. Traveling for work I usually peruse CL for anything. Up in Wyoming I found a new-in-box Superwinch LP8500. For a winch it was never my first choice. But I walked away with it for $200 :) Another deal on ebay with ebay bucks for a Rough Country winch plate (1/4 steel is 1/4 steel IMO), and mounted to my stock bumper with 8.75" cut from either side

2018! Mid January. Pays to have friends. A buddy of mine sent me a craigslist ad he found. Currie steering with less than 200 miles on it. The guy who had it was experiencing bumpsteer and went to a high steer setup. Picked up for $250. This thing is massive. Even compared to the ZJ steering.

Put them to test the next weekend on our annual April Phools Run. I also finally had an opportunity to use my front ARB locker. Its a game changer.
