Every man should have a welder for a few projects here and there

Can I call my truck a tow pig like everyone else? I don't have a trailer, but it does a little bit work!

I bedlined my rocker panels this weekend in an attempt to fight a small rust spot above the rear wheel well arch. I am confident the rust is not forming in between the body panels, but from old exterior chips and existing peeling paint. Everything I researched and I kept coming back to Monstaliner. 5 year updates with photos and it still looked great, so I bit the bullet and bought their 1 gal kit as well as a gallon of their universal primer.

I sanded the rockers for 4 hours on Saturday. I got rid of all the clear coat, and running a towel over these areas produced a fine white dust after I was done.

Taped everything off early Sunday morning and cleaned it really well with MEK. Then went to town with their Universal 1k High Solids Primer and the liner. I am pretty happy with the results, it should be dry enough for "light duty" use this afternoon and fully cured after a week.

And now I'm screwed 🙃

I've lost all power steering and the pump is dry. I crossed a creek and hit the steering skid box hard, it sheared the mounting bolts off and pushed the skid into the lower seal, causing a leak. I didn't notice until my steering became suddenly difficult and I noticed oil leaking. I've limped it off the mtn and now figuring out how to get home on Thursday.

Damn It... Any chance to source a steering box where you are at now?

Highly unlikely.

One idea is to fill it with fluid and see if anything will work. If I can steer, then I could limp it 360 miles home stopping frequently to refill it.

Another option is AAA. Though I'm not up to speed on my membership package. Telluride is remote, so towing would be substantial. I need to look into it. I could maybe tow it to Montrose and try to find a steering box there, I didn't bring any tools though (a dumb decision on my part).

Third option, convince my wife to drive my truck/trailer out here on Friday, but she's never driven with a trailer, let alone a trailer on mountain passes.

Forth option, walk to the regional airport, rent a car and drive home Thursday, get my truck/ trailer and drive back down Friday.

Damn, I'd give you the one from the part rig but it wouldn't get to you in time. And NO tools...... Double Damn.

Option 2 & 4 seem to be the best choices to me.

Looks like there is a uhaul trailer rental in Telluride if you'd feel better about your wife only bringing the truck. Not sure on what that takes but may be an option.
