Upgrading the sound system on your Jeep Wrangler TJ

Did it just slide right under or did you have to raise the seat? My jeep is plenty tall already.
My seats are raised, so for now I took advantage of the space. I do not intend on leaving it there but do plan to install it on the backside of a toolbox I have mounted in the rear. I've had water on the floor of my jeep before from summer storms, mounting it on the box should protect it a bit more.

Thanks for all that. I have Morel speakers in my other Jeep and they are fantastic. I saw those focals. Will they fit in the soundbar? they look deep. I am not married to the Polk idea. I will pay up to get quality. Not really concerned about budget. The 5 channel is an idea i pondered if i cant live without a sub later on. TJ is so cramped, just trying not to occupy all the space with components. My console does not have the stock sub.

If you are not married to the Pol idea, BLAM, Helix and Focal make some nice speakers.

If you can get a stock subwoofer console, the Kicker 6.75" drops right in there, so it is hidden and gives you that little extra punch that is needed. If you want to go bigger I could recommend that.

Also, my audio guy custom built me a box to fit inside the center console, and it could hold an 8" speaker. He also has great prices on the german stuff, but BLAM is best purchased from incartec. Multiple forum memebrs have purchased from here, all with good reviews.

This is a gerat audio guy who has the German stuff, Helix, Micro Precision, Jehnert and Ground Zero. Also has the French BLAM and Focal stuff.

Thanks. I will check them out.

I ordered some of the less expensive tweeter pods for the dash so I can mount the Polk DB component tweeters up top instead of down below. I expect that should solve some of the issue.

Which pods did you order?

They were these from ebay. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5337789113&icep_item=264530991107

I don't really like them, mostly because they stand a bit too tall imo due to the base so I would have to drill a hole to mount a different way, but really simply due to them being raw aluminum. I might paint them black, but probably won't use them until I install a full roll cage first so I know where exactly to mount them. I think I should just make my own pods out of PVC since my tweeters came with two different kinds of mounting 'cups'.

Thanks. It would be interesting to see some DIY PVC pods.

yeah, not exactly sure how I want to do it, but I definitely don't like them below the dash, that sucks.

So I am looking at Focal PC165F for rollbar pods. They say 2 15/16th inches to mount. Anyone running these? They look a bit deep, but I am getting close to ordering my system, so help is appreciated.

Could be a little too deep. These are the Focal PC165F's specs (left side) next to my Helix E6X speakers (right side). The mounting depth is 7mm longer on the Focals, which I THINK, could make them too deep.

Do tweeters need additional amp channels or do they usually tie into a set of speakers?

They are coaxial unlike the Focals you are looking at which have a separate passive crossover. The coaxial speakers are an easier install for the overhead speaker pods, but up front I like the components, like the Focals.

So only one amp channel per side

Almost always the later since 'component speaker systems', that is separate midwoofer and tweeters come with a passive crossover to split the amp channel between the mid and the tweeter. The only case this wouldn't be the case if you were using an electronic crossover system to individually amplifier

And that's where Audiotec Fischer comes into play with their dual amps and digital sound processors.

WTH is going on here?!

Okay, my sub is a powered sub, Rockford Fosgate PS-8. I did not mount it in the console because I wanted to use my console for other stuff and maybe even a cooler one day. So, what I did was mount it on the bottom of the rear seat. NOT on the floor under the rear seat, on the bottom of the seat itself. These are slimline self-powered subs that fit there well and don't take up any useable space in our tiny TJ's. I can take pics if someone wants, but I think you're looking for a console solution. But mine's better! LOL I get a console AND a sub and nobody even knows where it is, except you guys!

And I still love it a year and 9 months later.
I picked up a PS-8 and hooked everything up today but I’m not sure I understand your description of how you mounted it. I realize this post is pretty old but if you still have the setup and wouldn’t mind posting a picture it would sure be helpful.

I had thought you meant you mounted it to the bottom of the seat so it would essentially be a downfiring sub sitting under the seat but at least in my ‘97 Sahara I don’t think it has the clearance to fit under there.

His pictures are posted somewhere it’s literally in the bottom of the rear seat.
