For those who gave upgraded from m8 to a 9.5XP, did you find the improvement to justify the upgrade? Also, does the cover warn sells for the 9.5 really not fit? I want to keep the synthetic line dry and in good shape, so I guess if the cover only fits the m8, it’s going to be an m8.

I made the switch recently, after having burned up multiple M8 motors. The main improvement has been increased line speed.

Haven’t had the chance to test the weight rating on anything heavier than my LJ.

While it was a nice upgrade, I probably would’ve been fine with a new battery and smarter winching practices.

I ran a M8000 on a XJ for years with success. My LJ has an XD and the TJ runs a XP. The only reason I went with a XP over a M8000 is because primarily wheel the TJ with older, and much heavier, Broncos. The XP is an absolute monster of a winch and I've used it to pull some very heavy rigs out. If you're not doing that, or consistently pulling on the winch for long periods, save the money for other upgrades and stick with the M8000. Clean it up and add a breather kit from @Blackjack. Here's a link to the kit:

I too burned up three M8000 motors, learned to always run out a lot of line and get close to the first or second wrap on the drum...and use recovery rings or snatch blocks to do double, triple or more pulls.

Better battery would also help. I highly suspect my disappointment in my Optima Yellow Top is my 97 PCM isn't providing enough change voltage.
