Warn in-cab control switch is a letdown

Been thinking about an in-cab winch control for a while, was pretty optimistic when I found out Warn made an in cab control switch that was nice and precut with connectors, all spliced nicely into a plug that replaced the one on the side of my winch.

After receiving it, I'm wondering why its still for sale. purchased it straight off their website. To say I'm a little let down would be a dramatic understatement.

If my winch was mounted on my cowl in front of the windshield or if I wanted a switch next to my headlight it just might work.

The instructions are garbage, and the connectors don't match up with the solenoids in my xd9000i. I guess other models have blade connectors.

sure, I could cut, splice, and crimp extension wires where needed and shorten on the other end, but if I wanted to do that I would have just done it all myself in the first place.

Just wanted to let you all know, if you're considering this kit, don't.

Damn, that sort of defeats the purpose of it if you have to cut and splice wires, connectors, etc.

X2 on the recommendation of the 12VoltGuy dash plates. Totally works without removing the option for using the handheld remote when you want to be outside the Jeep.

That's definitely a utv switch kit. Looking at the solenoid, it is exactly what I have on my Polaris RZR. And one of the first "shopping" links for it was denniskirk.com which is an atv/utv parts house.

The instruction sheet also shows the handlebar mounted rocker switch and calls out ProVantage 3500...aka, 3500# winch.

I’ve always wanted a mount on the windshield between the visors. Along with the handheld remote.

so I’m glad to know I can do that. Now to get around to purchasing the winch

So when i used the drop down for "compatibility" on warns website it did say powersport. Didn't rule it out since a category on their homepage was something like atv/utv so i figured Powersports was more all encompassing.

I also saw another kit with the thumb switch that matches the instructions, so i convinced myself that one was for atvs and this one was for vehicles.

So do you have like 5 feet of wire coiled up inside your solenoid box?
Im confused as how this installs even on the correct application.

When installed on a UTV, the solenoid doesn't have a "box" like a truck winch. In my installation it is roughly 2 feet away from my steering wheel since the front end is all open and the motor is in the back. I DIY-ed my dash switch with a winch rocker on Amazon and wires and terminals that I already had laying around.

Warn's site is terrible for searching for atv/utv products so I'm not surprised that a utv product ended up with truck parts. When I had a Warn plow on my Honda ATV last year I couldn't find any of the accessories listed in the manual on Warn's page but I could through various online vendors.

No, mines Bluetooth and once connected it’s very responsive. Mine also can disengage the clutch for free spool. I wanted full control for safety reasons and I also have a front camera watching my winch.
That is a nice , nice set up . Which winch models will that work with...and are you using steel or braided cable?

Mine’s the warn 10s platinum, I don’t think it is compatible with any other model. I’m not sure if the other remotes are Bluetooth or some form of WiFi.

Mine is synthetic rope.

+1 for 12 volt guy! This is the one I got from him, and wired in. It says "Plan B" and "in" and "out" Even under the tamper proof switch the toggle lights up when powered on. Wires were extra long and labeled.

I have 2 small kids. occasionally thry climb around in the cab. This means I have to be particularly careful about in cab winch controls.

The way im getting around this is to have a small LED indicator light on the dash to indicate power to the control switch, and a small 2 position pull key activated switch on the dash. This will allow me to lockout the in cab switch from operation, and quickly turn it on when I'm wheeling. Haven't gotten the indicator LED yet, but here is the new winch control switch and keyed power interuptor.
