Water leak in floorboards

So I just got done vacuuming water out if the Jeep, pulled the carpet, whole shebang. Not the first time this has happened, but deffinetly the worst. The water is only in the floorboards, primarily in the rear seat footwell, also in the front footwell, light coating on the rear deck, the Jeep is parked facing down hill on a driveway when it rains, I have checked the cowl multiple times, and sealed the passenger air intake under the cowl. There is no want on top of the weather tech floor mats, but I am concerned it would be able to slide down the firewall and under the mats. (The mats don’t fit perfect)

at this point I’m guessing the windshield frame to body seal, or the rear glass/gate seal. Does anyone have PN’s or advice on wich one of those to replace first, or other possible water intrusion locations?

Both of my Jeeps also have mystery leaks that I haven't figured out yer. It has to rain just right at a certain time only in the month of June and it fills the footwells.

Maybe sit in it with a flashlight the next time it rains? It has to be coming through somewhere.

Sit in your Jeep and have someone simulate rain with a garden hose. In my experience, that's the best way to identify the source.

well got my dad to spray the Jeep down while I monkeyd about the interior, lo and behold it’s coming from the front, a quick inspection leads me to believe it is the windshield frame to body seal, yay . Now I get to go hunting for that part.

for anyone doing this in the future, it’s waaaay easier to find the leak after you yank the carpet.

I too find water in the passenger floor board after a hard rain (when parked) and just did the hose test and found water leaking from around the foam gasket at what I think is the a/c-heater housing (#4 in the diagram). If I'm understanding the factory service manual correctly, I will need to remove the dash in order to remove the housing to replace this foam seal. Does anyone know another way? or perhaps an idea for how to address from the engine compartment-side?

mine too was leaking there as well. as for the replacement foam gasket kit, good luck sourcing one. it is a discontinued item and I was unable to find one after searching and searching. my gasket appeared to have shrunk allowing for a gap.

my undesired solution was to pick up a small tube of clear silicone and thinly bead around everything to seal the gasket to firewall and all the piping through the foam gasket from within the engine bay. I feel like its a half assed job but it stopped the water leaks from the hvac opening through the firewall.

Edit - you may luck out looks like available for up to 2001 4874069AB. I cant imagine any difference for my 03. I may look into testing this if the silicone stops holding up. but all the disassembly doesn't look fun if my silicone holds up.

thank you for both tips. I might try the silicone first and work my up to gasket replacement.
