What connection is this under the dashboard?

Was that ever a factory option? My mirror has it but I've never been able to figure out why it doesn't work.

It would get connected to a harness that goes to the right side, up behind the pillar trim, over across to the left under the header trim and then down to the compass/temp mirror if so equipped. The rest of it would be a thermistor plugged into one of them empty connectors located in the bottom part of the grill.

Must be more than just temperature, there are 7 cables wired to that plug.

That is for an auto-dimming temp/compass rearview mirror. There are wires for reverse signal, power, ground and temperature (signal and ground). Andy
