What did you do to your TJ today?

Last night I tackled the valve cover gasket and I was quite disappointed to find that it had already been done by the PO with a Felpro gasket. My disappointment isn’t so much that it had already been done but it’s because that means that the oil drip I have is coming from the RMS that I already replaced about 16 months ago! I replaced it twice at that, once with a Felpro RMS and that was garbage in my opinion so I replaced it with an OEM seal.
it’s just a slow drip for now, a couple drops on my garage floor from time to time isn’t going to force me to do it anytime soon but probably when the weather warms back up in the spring. 😡

Finally got around to replacing the stripped out screws for soft top rear window brackets. I didn't realise how much they were rattling before with the old hardware🤦‍♂️

Next project is to get a little hot glue on the rear plastic cover in the back of the hard top that is rattling, looks like the previous owner broke one of the brackets😕

I FOUND JEEP TREASURE! The aftermarket soft top that was installed on my LJ was a POS. Since day one it was already flimsy and falling apart. I finally drove over to the dealer that sold me the Jeep and showed them. They offered to install another Mickey Mouse one and I said no since factory was my first pick and a bestop one is second best. As luck would have it, he had another LJ on the lot. One owner. Except the owner had purchased the Jeep with both a hard top/soft top option......AND NEVER USED THE SOFT TOP. It had literally been boxed since 2006 up until last week when they installed it on the Jeep. No wear and tear. No scratches. Nothing. I was like.....

It took only 30 minutes for them to switch it out. I couldn’t be happier. I can literally say that today I had a BRAND NEW 2006 LJ TOP INSTALLED. Glad I have this forum to share the info because outside of here, no one without a Jeep cares one bit 😂

Earlier this past week I removed my dash mounted CB and swapped in a Cobra 75 that I had laying around. But it definitely needed a better speaker is I was going to hear it on the trail. I ordered a flat double male AUX cable with 90* ends. Connected one to the Cobra interface box under the dash and ran the other to the AUX input on my head unit. So now when I am using the CB (never at same time as radio) I simply switch to AUX on the head unit and the CB is now through all the Sound system. Plenty of volume. The change also freed up the space on the dash to install a Ram mount for my phone which runs Gaia on the trail. Seems to be the ideal setup for me.

Love my Ram mount. You can literally drive off a cliff and wreck the Jeep but somehow your phone will still be perfectly held by the mount.

Installed a BRAND NEW 2006 OEM TOP on the LJ. The aftermarket top that came with my Jeep when I bought it was garbage. So I drove to the dealer to show them and stumbled upon this one. It was unboxed last week for the FIRST TIME since 2006. Belonged to a Rubicon with one owner. They bought it with both top options but only used the hardtop. Never used the soft top. Not once. Crazy find. I was like...

After a 30 minute switcheroo I drove home with my new factory top. Been feeling like this all day....

Score.

I completed my swing a way/tailgate aluminum plate with stand offs and some really cool snubbers a surplus store had a bin of for .25 each, and then added some Herculiner at the entry front corners where feet hit, then touched up the rockers and did 3m film. @Hog may post pics, if not it's cool, he's done that a lot already.

Finally found an LJR that may be the one. Let's see if the guy accepts my cash offer.

Who made your bumper? And do they sell it without the tire carrier?
Hey Buddy, not sure , I think it's American made Smittybuilt that is now out of production/made over seas. It's all crazy stout. Nerf bars welded to the frame.

I have seen one on an LJ without the carrier, but it was made where you could add it.

Well this sucks....

At this point, I just want to remove the rear seat altogether. But since it won’t tumble anymore it won’t move.

Have you gotten a work around for this yet.

mine snapped years ago. There is a 1/4” socket along the frame if you peel the Velcro up on the backside.

Yes, I finally pulled up enough to remove the seat but I haven’t been able to make the full repair.
