What did you do to your other vehicle today?

Sunday, I replaced the strut assemblies (all four corners) on an '04 Hyundai Elantra that I picked up for my son. A single push downward on the front end would result in 6 to 7 bounces of the car. The driver's side rear strut was so bad, I could get almost 3" of movement when pushing/pulling at the top of the tire. When I removed it, I turned it upside down to see how much oil would leak out. There was no oil left, but about a cup of water poured out onto the ground. WTH? Doesn't ride like a Cadillac, now, but it at least rides like an '04 Hyundai should.

Took the rack off the back and put the spare tire on for our trip to Idaho.

Got my key programmed and the remote start activated! Everything works perfectly. Also adjusted some of the as-built parameters and now my dash welcome screen is dirt brown instead of black, fog lights stay on with the high beams, the blinkers flash 4 times instead of three when the turn signal arm is used. Anyone with a Ford should definitely look at Forscan, pretty nifty program that gives you dealership access to everything.

Back on the Mercedes after being gone over the weekend. Over all - on most things - I'd much rather work on that old Benz than the Jeep - its just easier. Or maybe its just what I'm used to.

I've got Forscan and the adapter but I still haven't attempted it. Did you back everything up before messing with it?

The big one for me is I don't need it honking everytime I get out and close a door while the diesel is idling.

I did. I saved everything into a folder called "stock". With each change I saved again with what was added/removed. There is always the worry of bricking it.

Wise move, I've read some stories of people trying to undo it. Apparently you can download all the stock info from Ford somewhere on the webs if you'd ever need it.

ON THE OTHER HAND...
Sometimes parts procurement isn't as straight forward as you'd like it to be. Car takes 4 V belts - 3 types with the alternator running 2. Ordered Continentals from Rock Auto - I've run Contis on my Mercedeses for 40 years. Rock's listing for this car is AFU - the A/C belt was correct, all others were wrong. Sent the wrong ones back, but had to pay return postage on 1 of them. Ended up paying a buttload more money for Gates, but my local O'Reilly had them. Sigh...

About to change the oil for the first time in the new 2500. Need to order some BFG KO2's for it. Factory Firestone AT's are garbage in the rain, or on wet grass. Cant believe they even market this tire as an "AT".
Can't remember what tires were on my 2015 Sierra when I bought it. Had to use 4wd on wet grass to get up a slight incline. Trip to discount tire fixed that.

Now I'm actually bolting shit back on the Mercedes instead of taking if off. 2 hoses, all 4 belts, although only one of said belts is completely done. Stopped at about 1515 when the sun starting shining into the garage. It takes me 1.2 forevers to get anything done as I'm slow and methodical - plus I'm retired. There's always tomorrow!

Drove the company car back from O'hare today. Other than that, I checked the oil on the DeSoto before I took it out last Sunday.

My part of the Mercedes is done. It was actually done a week ago, but I had my surgery and other things to deal with, so it sat there. Filled it with coolant today. It goes down to the shop sometime next week for a radiator flush and replacement of the heater hoses - which are a ROYAL PITA to deal with on that car.

Leave it to our Hessian Friends to design a car that is good in many aspects, yet you can't change heater hoses or get
V-belts easily.
Honestly maybe the Germans should have just stuck with building air-cooled cars with 1 V-belt ,
and stone age simple wiring.;) Glad your feeling good enough to work on the Benz !

The only Type 1 that I wish I still owned.
