What did you do to your other vehicle today?

Sprayed the undercarriage of the 3/4 ton with Fluid Film and test-fitted the new tire chains. Getting ready for the big hunting trip up north! It got new oil, oil filter, and fuel filters this week but I paid dealer shop for that work. All in all she’s about ready to spend a week in the woods and getting sprayed with salt there and back.
This is my first time using Fluid Film and I like it. The lanolin is more pleasant smelling and I don’t feel like I’m getting poisoned like with the NHOU.

Made some reassembly progress yesterday, got the timing cover, new oil pan & gasket installed. finished up my garage time by getting the water pump back on. realized I forgot assembly lube and to soak the timing chain in oil... oh well 🙃

today I got the harmonic / main pulley back on, engine oil filter adapter with new line fittings installed, installed the new engine oil cooling lines & lower radiator hose. wrapped up with a new idler pulley.

essentially at the point where I need the trans cooling lines. I ordered what I believe to be the correct line fittings for the trans.. dont want to put the radiator in until I fish in the hard trans lines. got to figure out what 2 days my coworker is taking off this week so I can slip out of work for a day to go downstate to inline tube and have them manufacture my trans lines for me.
Inline tube as well as other sources claim my trans lines for my truck are 5/16... my calipers measure them at 3/8 🤦‍♂️

just need some hard lines for my transmission then I can pop the radiator in and top off the 3 fluids and should be able to road test my repairs.
 
Took the day off work and drove down to inline tube. took them my lines and yep, my model combination isnt in their catalog yet.. hopefully they can add it. said they would at least give me a part number so I can reference it next time I need these lines made.

Pricey, I know.. trucks a sitting duck until I receive the lines to continue progress.
 
I bought a matching OEM wheel for my spare and a TPMS for it also so I can have a five tire rotation to go with my five new Cooper Dicoverer At3 XLT's. I bought the tires at my local Big O tire shop and had them do the rotation today. Yesterday I had the dealer do an oil change and and fix a Crank Seal under warranty.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the dealer said it would $109 to take the tire off the steel wheel and put it on my new to me OEM wheel. A tire rotation is included in they're oil change, but I'm not going to pay them to do something that Big O will do for free, especially since that's where I bought the tires.

That's why they're called "stealerships"...

I'd have something rather crude to say if somebody told me that - its a $20 job at most.

So far, most of the gears and synchros look okay, but several of the bearings are so far gone it's a wonder the thing didn't grenade on me! The reason for it popping out of fourth is that the rear bearing on the output shaft had almost a quarter inch of axial play! This seems to be a weak point in this transmission because it's happened twice before, and the spare I bought on car-parts.com years ago has even more axial play...

Hopefully I can still buy parts for this 25 year old transmission!

Well, I was making great progress, but everything came to a halt today. I forgot to order a new seal for the speedometer drive gear. My plan was to get the tranny assembled this weekend. If I had time, I'd have installed it, too. However, without that seal, I can't put the case halves together, so this is my stopping point:

Replaced the idler pulley and serpentine belt on my wife's KL at 112k miles. To get to the idler pulley you have to pull the passenger wheel and wheel liner. Then to get to the tensioner you have to pull the air box assembly and intake tube. The tensioner is also located right next to the frame rail.

You can see the idler here, right above it (behind the rail) is the tensioner

Replacing the POS electronic feedback carb with an older non feedback version on the 86 F150 I got for free with the property I bought this summer. It’s a decent truck for hauling junk around, not rusty, only 106k miles.

Next I get to put a new thermostat in the wife’s Grand Cherokee to turn off the CEL for low operating temp and change the oil.

Wrangler has sat for so long it wouldn’t start. Battery chargers hooked up now.

I got the seal yesterday and had an early out of the office, so I put the 5 speed together:

Plan is to install this on the 26th upon my return from our Thanksgiving trip. Then, on the way to the office this morning, the 1 year old Northstar in my Expedition gave me some grief. Stopped for gas, and the voltmeter read low when I turned the key back on after filling up. It barely started, and when I got here, I put a voltmeter on it - 11 volts. Now I have to figure out what's up with the charging system. No rest for the weary! :(

Little trailer is back from the welding shop. Old mesh removed from floor - will have pressure treated plywood emplaced once I've wire-wheeled, rust-converted, primed, and painted the frame. New mesh put on front and sides, back tailgate will also be plywood. Rusty old fenders that were too high after the axle flip are gone, and galvanized boat trailer fenders fitted. Lastly, a support on the tongue for a "tall 50" ammo can were put on as well.

Do you have access to marine grade plywood? I have a similar trailer I bought new in 1996. It came with 5/8" marine grade plywood. I never sealed it, and it lasted over 10 years, sitting outside 24/7, through rain and snow.

Marine grade is hard to find here in PA, and being a cheap bastard, I replaced that with pressure treated. The pressure treated only lasted 4-5 years. I replaced the pressure treated with a 1/2" painted plywood. That got me another 5-6 years. This year I replaced the painted with a good grade of 3/4", and applied 4-6 coats of urethane. Time will tell.

My frame is set up that I can only use plywood, but if I could, I would replace the plywood with 2x6 or 2x8 boards.

Too bad you don't want to use 2x , I was going to suggest Apitong wood , that's what is on low boy trailers and the like . Lasts forever but it is heavy at 11#s per foot of 2 X 12 !!! Another plywood to look into is " Fin form " it is used in concrete forming for Dam spillways , extremely high quality ! 12 plys for 3/4 inch marine grade. I don't know the cost but you may have to look into other forms of dancing to pay for it !!!! lol. :LOL:

I typically park my chevy 2500 for the winter but my VW has been at several shops since january, so I went ahead and undercoated the truck with fluid film. Really hoping it doesn't see any salt this winter though. I didn't spray it last fall and spent all spring washing the truck in 40 degree weather multiple times a week to get the damn salt off. Decided to also get new tires since mine like to spin a bit in the rain. Went with Falken Rubitreks as amazon had a decent deal.

Regardless of which plywood option you end up going with, protecting the underside with a coat of something before you install it is probably a good idea.
It would make equal sense to seal the edges if they are not accessible after installation.

I recently used a product that I am ALMOST ashamed to admit to; Flex-Seal spray.

It might be a very good option for the underside of a plywood trailer deck.

Here's a pic of what I used it for. The original vinyl had peeled away and had this $75 windshield bag heading to the trash.
The shape was still solid, so I tried a can of Flex-Seal spray and it turned out great.
The finished product is not soft, sticky, etc.
I used several coats to hide the mesh pattern left behind after fully peeling the damaged vinyl off.

This stuff would probably make a really durable undercoating.

I got dragged to a tripartite workshop once: Belly Dance, twerk, and burlesque. The Belly Dance was, of course, just fine. Burlesque - I just do NOT have the innate sensuality required for the form. Maybe some males do, but I'm not one of them. That portion of the workshop was interesting and fun though. Twerk - I just didn't see the point of the thing, although the instructor's twerking technique was jaw-dropping.

From what I've read, male pole dancers are a thing - very athletic apparently and no heels required.
