What did you do to your other vehicle today?

Not mine, but was in my care on Sunday while I helped out a neighbor with some issue. New water pump and housing, repaired some electrical issues. She was running like a champ too. RIP Astro fish and ski 😢.

She’s a write off. Broken windshield, hull damage, trailer bent at axle and hitch. Hope the insurance treats him fairly. He was on hard times and was getting her up and going to sell. Was considering buying it just to help him out. Luck I don’t have any major damage. Just downed trees and some scattered building materials from projects.

I replaced the fuel pump on my 89 YJ. lately it’s been hard to start after is sits for a week or so. The replaced one lasted 11 yrs. Luckily it died 5 ft before I was able to back it in to it’s parking spot and not on the trail. Not even a 1 beer job.

Built my "custom" axles for the MR2 over the weekend (just combined 4 different axles into a pair that works)

I'll come back around with metal zip ties for the boots when I torque the suspension down.

Rear calipers (were seized) both got rebuilt too.

Getting closer and closer to moving on its own...

Supervised dear daughter #5 changing out the plugs in her Mini.
Had a few misfires and was stalling. Took forever to get it to throw a code.

Taught her that the words previous owner are the same as the worst cusswords out there, and that it's ok to hate assholes that do stuff like this.

If the stripes and no stripes don't catch your eye, zoom in close on the flats.
It was bad enough I had to buy a 14 mm 12 point plug socket, having to grind down a 14 mm socket into a super thin wall was annoying. It's ok to punch people like that in the blank space where their nuts should be.

There's a hotter place in hell for people like that.

I never saw 12 point plugs...

I put a digital bicycle speedometer on this Phrench Phart today.

A pain in the ass to set up because of the goofy sized tires.

I still need to remove the mechanical speedometer. That's for a bike with 26" wheels but that's for tomorrow. It'll probably end up on my 1947 Monark Rocket.

You need one of these...

Monark Silver King. Hexagon-shaped aluminum bars and those beautiful forks make this a favorite of mine.

You aren't alone. Pressed and pinned aluminum frames begat screwed and glued aluminum frames which begat welded aluminum frames. I have one screwed and glued frame and three welded frames. Alas, not a pressed and pinned one. I know where one lives, but it's under lock and key.

Water pump on 17 expedition with the 3.5L I really think it's a piece of crap but we really wanted it because it's the el and it's great for camping with the kids and it's 4x4 but it just seems like it has more crap to keep up with than my lj also ordered the power seat switch which guess what never had that problem with any jeep I've ever owned

Been chasing down some odd behavior on a 2006 Mazda5 "micro" minivan. Put in new NGK iridium plugs, as the old Denso plugs had a million miles on 'em. After 75 miles of short trips, the car suddenly started running like crap during warm-ups. I mean, it was undrivable until completely up to full operating temperature. This scenario was absolutely repeatable, too. So, I tested the COPs. All checked out fine. Problem remained. I installed remanufactured OEM fuel injectors. No change. I cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor. No change. I bought a smoke machine, and checked for a vacuum leak. None detected. On a whim, I threw the old plugs back in, and the problem was suddenly gone. Wtf? Threw the new iridium plugs back in, and the problem returned. So I ordered a set of Autolite old school copper core plugs and installed them, and the problem is gone again. Also bought some Denso Platinum plugs, just in case the car rejected the copper core plugs. First time I've ever experienced this. T'was a head scratcher, for sure.

Sounds like those iridium plugs are too cold. Are you sure they were the right plugs for the application?

Worked on my boat. Ready to set it on fire. Need Mercruiser diagnostic tool, but it’s far too expense. Time to give it a broadside with the parts cannon. Tally Ho you scallywags!

Also serviced my work car. Super easy. I’m digging the Kia 32k in.

When I had a Saab, it used the resistance of the spark plugs to detect knock. So if you used anything other than a copper plug, it thought it was knocking bad and ran in limp mode. Maybe it's something similar

That's a little more in-depth than this old backyard mechanic would ever realize. You could very well be right, but like I said, I'm not familiar with such things. I did find it odd that so many others had used the same brand and model of plugs, apparently without incident. 🤷‍♂️

Added a fold down support leg to the metal tailgate rail on the little utility trailer. The couple of times that I have actually had to use this opening feature, I either had to let it hang or find something to prop it up with, so I decided to bite the bullet and add this folding leg. This still isn't an optimal solution, but it'll do as infrequently as I use it. I usually just lift things in and out.
