What did you do to your TJ today?

Today I was supposed to be at work in the maintenance area welding brackets on my new Core 44 axle, original plans had me hoping to install it over the weekend.

Instead though due to quarantine and having COVID, I flushed my power steering system to prepare to install my PSC hydro assist kit. The system is flushed, and hoping that I can install the new steering box this weekend. Knock on wood, for me the 'rona has been mild.

Installed some deflection tape stuff called reflect a cool. Hopefully it will help cool down the foot box area.

also noticed an oil leak. It looks to be an RMS. Reason is I cleaned off the front of the aluminum piece between the oil pan and transmission. No new oil there but it appears to be leaking between the transmission and the aluminum piece.

Check you shifter boot for any rips. Very common with the manuals. It will let a ton of heat in if ripped. I discovered mine when doing my V8 swap last year.

Replaced the multifunction switch which fixed my turn signal issue of both blinking when turning on the right blinker. The turn signals no longer come on when I touch the brake either. Also got new headlight brackets so I can finally aim my headlights and drive it at night again.

In terms of getting my jeep to the trail, sold my Powerwagon yesterday. Going to look at a new truck tomorrow though even though i was supposed to go wheeling...

You know, the older I get, the more often I do stupid stuff. I took the aftermarket straight stick off of the xfer case shifter to dog leg it. I was very careful in determining the correct direction to bend it, etc, etc. And yes, you do see this coming...

I heated it up with a propane torch, put a beautiful bend into it, let it cool, primed and painted it. As an aside, I have forgotten how S-L-O-W black paint is to dry. Went and popped it back in the Jeep, and THEN noticed that I had bent it the wrong way!

So I got to do it again. Came out just as good, but I have to let the paint dry overnite now as its almost mosquito time...

Why did you decide to bend it?

Why did you decide to bend it?
Because they don't fit all that well out of the box. It just touches the plastic surround at the back in 4-low on my Jeep. Apparently, some Jeeps can't even be put into 4-low with this straight stick - the fix is to dog leg it a bit, I did about 20 degrees or so.

I had to laugh seeing some of the above posts. I replaced my inner shifter boot today, what a pain in the a$$ for a simple task. The two bolts at the 4wd lever just spun. I made the executive decision to engineer the new boot vs. cutting bolts etc. it worked pretty well. Amazing how torn up my old one was, not a big deal in the winter with the free heat, but excited to feel the difference in summer. Also finished up the JKS disconnects.

Do you think the gear shifter would bend that easily? I’ve considered bending mine so it fits better in the shifter and doesn’t hit my console.

Installed a new windshield sourced from a junkyard in Alabama. The old one was in bad shape (by far the worst part of the Jeep) since I got it. I passed on another windshield in light Khaki Metallic about 2 weeks after I got the Jeep 2 years ago, and didn’t see another one until I found this one.
