What did you do to your TJ today?

Got the Trektop NX put on. Yes I got the Trampstamp, but it's all good. Better than getting a duck!!!!

Misfire code didnt' go away on its own, nor did the IAC code I got when I forgot to plug it back in (felt like it was impeding my ability to get the fuel rail out, was probably wrong). Last night I bit the bullet & cleared the codes knowing it would re-set my monitors and delay getting inspected...I was already a month out of date. Anyway, took it for a drive last night & then again this morning, got all the monitors ready in record time, and immediately went to go pass my inspection. WOOHOO!

All I did was clean the injectors, replace one rail-side o-ring, and moistened the o-rings with some 5w-20. I did swap the #1 & #2 injectors expecting the code to move, but so far no misfire at all. I have a hard time believing my actions fixed it, especially since I'm pretty sure I tore the o-ring putting it back together Wednesday (long after seeing the misfire code).

For the non Texans - in addition to whatever else they test, you can't have a CEL on, and for cars 2001 & newer, you can only have 1 monitor in not ready status. Older than that you can have 2 monitors not ready. I have definitely worked this to my advantage a time or two. :p

Time to seek a good friend in an emission free countie for dual ownership, or strait up MT LLC the vehicle. As the laws tighten one needs to legally circumvent the revenue grab. Probably in other states as well, thank goodness Folks own legacy property in MT!

A buddy of mine told me there was a kid at fhe local high school automotive shop that was parting out a TJ. I went and talked to the kid, and apparently he bought 2 TJ's, made one, sold it, and is now parting out the other one. This is his "final" for shop class, so to speak.

I looked it over, and bought a stock air box to replace the cold air intake that was on my Jeep when I bought it. I also bought a set of half doors that need some love, but the interior panels are in good shape and match my mist grey interior.

I gave the kid $400 for the doors and the intake, and we both walked away happy. I'm going to clean the doors up, shoot a coat of paint on em, and use them for trail doors. The air box? Already on the Jeep!😆

The inspection costs $25 for any vehicle younger than 25 years old, how much is it in your county (and which county)? Doing the work to get the CEL off isn't really a bad thing anyway. I mean, I hate that I risked a ticket driving it while I was chasing it down, but ultimately it was a problem that needed to be solved anyway. And no amount of civil disobedience on my part is going to change the county's policy. 2 more years and my inspection will only be $7 and they won't even look at the dash or plug in a reader.

I know of other ways to pass an inspection when you can't get that CEL off, but it ends up being roughly (exactly) $100, the only upside being that it doesn't go to the state. But it doesn't save me any money, and it removes the incentive to fix my issue.

I got the rebuilt rear end with the Detroit and new gears back today. Got it roughed in with all the bolts and the springs in place. Got to torque everything down this weekend, get the shafts in, complete rebuild of rear brakes except masters, fill it up and start breaking it in!! Pics tomorrow. it gets dark so early now!!!

Well the incentive to fix issues related to safety and drivability are indeed self motivating, and there for all of us. I was just posting more of permanent (double entendre rags and no more inspection) way of overcoming the next hurdle they inevitably set up. Irks me that us ‘car guys’ or so many forums are plagued with these type ‘problems with the man’ grey area enthusiast gov’t problem posts. Hope all is passing for you, and we all can enjoy years more of jeeping freedom on the road.

Radiator swap before I had to go to work tonight. The YJ radiator was almost identical besides two noticeable differences. The barb for the overflow reservoir hose was pointed 45* towards the grill as opposed to being parallel to the radiator like my original one and there were actual nuts welded onto the frame instead of just holes with U nuts. Thankfully I had some M8 x 1.25 bolts lying around and I just rigged the coolant reservoir hose up until Amazon delivers the hose I ordered to replace the now too short piece due to the different angles. Ran it up to operating temperature and everything is good. I hate to toss out a nice old brass radiator so I might look around and see if anyone local repairs them since they are hard to find anymore.

Might not be the case anymore, but recoring and repairing radiators used to be a thing. Though thinking about it some, I can't recall the last time I saw a sign for a radiator shop....
