What did you do to your TJ today?

The traditional bore gauge is really a dial gauge and two non-moving contact points. It comes with a ring to set it. I’ve never seen one like that. Where’d you get it, and is it a reputable brand?

I borrowed it from my tool shop. Not sure what brand but I’d imagine it is reputable with the product we manufacture

Does your tool shop have a calibration ring for it? That way you can verify that 1) it’s accurately measuring, and 2) you’re reading the vernier properly.

Not today but this long weekend, pulled the front coils, cycled the suspension, installed coil spring isolators, new front hubs, new battery cable from jeepcables.com, got new seat cushions from Summit racing along with rostra seat heaters. Ah, a lot of more betterer goodness.

Nearly burned my daughter's jeep to the ground just now.

It's been in the garage not driving for the last little bit, doing the stereo (I was slow and not motivated due to the rainy weather & other competing interests). Go to start it today, battery is dead. So I go to jump it off my Lexus. Here's the thing, the battery terminals aren't labeled, and by now you know where this story is headed. One of the terminals has a black cover, although that cover wasn't on the terminal, it was hanging off to the side of the battery, So I think "black cover, gotta be the negative terminal."

I hook it all up and i know something is wrong because the headlights didn't turn on in her jeep. Then she goes "dad something is smoking!!" And she wasn't kidding. I ripped the cables off the jeep battery and prayed that the smoke circuit would finish up ...for a hot second I debated getting the fire extinguisher.

Anyway, that's when I figured out that the black terminal cover has a small red (+) on the other side. Luckily no damage done. I'll do a more thorough inspection of the wiring in that area, but it seems like we're ok for right now. Once corrected, it fired up no problem and we drove it for a little while.

I did the same thing years ago, but I was drinking heavily. ;) 🥳

I installed a front license plate holder from BMB. @mrblaine does such fantastic work on the customer experience! The shipping, packaging and the delivery notices are all above and beyond any other supplier I have used. The license plate holder is an elegant design that finishes off the front of my LJR very nicely.

We have all ways called them intra-mic's (Inside Micrometer with 3-points). It still takes a feel like an OD mic to get a good reading. It should have a standard ring gauge to verify size.

A dial bore gauge as you suggested would probably be better for an engine cylinder bore to show the highs and lows of the bore (out of roundness)
we use both to check bearing cartridge bores, but most prefer the dial bore gauge for checking.

Please wipe down the frame and axles with mineral spirits (hit them with a wire wheel if you can, but perfect isn't the focus here) and hit them with some flat black Rustoleum. Stop the cancer that's already growing... That doesn't look bad for Canada, but it looks like it's about to go metastatic quickly... If you can't go fully after it to remove the scale and prime/paint/clear, at least inhibit the cancer. Please.

This is a message from your future self... ;)
