What did you do to your TJ today?

New (smaller) tires! The 31/10.50s had to go for a roadtrip coming up lol

Is this your Jeep now? ;)

You still have K-mart? Long gone here…

We sure do… we have a few of them.
I think they’re part of the Kmart Australia office. Even though we’re not Australia we do get a lot of Australian companies camping out in New Zealand

Actually yesterday, but my Jeep is now officially a 2-seater.

I kept the back seat and all its hardware, just in case I need it for whatever reason.

This provides a ton of lockable storage.

The lid fits tightly under the lip of the tailgate so it can't be opened without opening the tailgate.

And like almost all the reviews mentioned, it was missing some hardware.

So a trip to True Value and $15 later and all is bolted in and secure.

There's a good bit of room between the wheelwell and the front corners so I 'm going to see if I can come up with a mount/holder for fire extinguisher/first aid kit/whatever.

What's the purpose of the wings notched around the sport bar and extending to the tub rail? Are they to provide lateral stability and keep the enclosure from racking?

I've seen some reviews that mention the missing hardware.. not a big deal as I would change out to safety Torx heads anyway, but a few reviews mention the trailing edge of the cover doesn't actually lock under the lip on the tailgate allowing the top be opened while in what should be a securely locked position. What's your experience in regard?

edit: found the install instructions.. Am I correct that the wings that attach to the tub rail are the only means of securing the box to the tub? Just two bolts? Nothing actually bolts to the floor of the tub?

The wings on the corner are pretty bogus actually.

They do lock it into place fairly securely, but I just don't like them.

I drilled holes in the sides of the trunk and bolted it into place using the rivnuts that were previously used for the Instatrunk.

Totally gets rid of the wings and now it's really secure.

The front of the trunk is also very close to the bolts that hold the seat bracket so you could put an "L" bracket up front of you wanted.

With the rivnuts holding it down I don't think you could lift the front very far.

Mine fits tight against the tailgate and the lid can't be opened when the tailgate is closed.

There is some adjustment there so I could see someone not getting it against the tailgate properly.

Overall I do like it, but it's not too much of a "bolt it in and be done" solution.

It takes some tweaking, though it's all pretty easy.

Thanks.. those wings look wonky. I have the InstaTrunk now so repurposing the rivnuts would be easy enough.

Have you considered fitting hood struts to hold the top up instead of the metal support bars?

It could be done pretty easily.

That's something I may look into at some point as I had'nt thought about it

I need to start putting together a recovery kit. Any recs on individual pieces or kits to buy? I have a winch on the front with the factory recovery hooks on the front. For the back, I didn't see any obvious recovery hooks. I do have a trailer hitch. Are these the recovery points?

I used one of these for years.

Amazon: D-Ring Hitch Receiver

It worked for me in situations like this:

But, this situation had me hooking up the recovery strap to the D-ring and throwing it up in the bed at the start of future rides to be ready to recover.

Otherwise, you look like this...

🤣

If you don't play in mud, that prep hook-up may not be needed, but the recovery point works well paired with a good snatch strap. I have a 30' non-stretch (aka not a Bubba rope) that served my group well.

I've had this strap that served me well: Strap
