What did you do to your TJ today?

My dad bought my 15 year old son a red TJ this past weekend. Now we have two.

It's in pretty good shape for a 23 year old jeep. The plan is to use it to help teach my son how to maintain a vehicle. He's excited about it. Also, it's very difficult to text and drive with a manual transmission.

I think red and yellow are the 2 best colors for TJs.

Also, I see that your son's is bigger than yours.

I took my TJ to a transmission shop and got the shift shaft seal replaced. It cost me $245 which isn't too bad. I replaced that seal in January myself, and it started leaking again in April. So, time to take it to the pros to do it right.
I'd pay that all day to replace it. That's a good price IMO.

Compound, polish, and wax. With a beach visit after. Little TLC makes an impact (orange).

It was yesterday but a little more welding. At a point where it is time to start cutting up the passenger side.
Much to do still

How are you addressing painting or metal protection inside the frame? What about where the parts come together?

I'm always curious on how fabricators protect that internal raw metal where paint can't reach (sandwich sections in particular) but the air & moisture will reach over time.

This is that moment as a father where you have to realize your son ('s Jeep) is getting better than you (rs) and you don't get intimidated. Don't let your bigger son use his (Jeep's) size to his advantage.

You're still the father in this situation. You still know best to shape his life forward (on the trail).

While the frame was open I needle scaled the inside to “smooth” and brush applied Zero Rust

Zero Rust 62SP Black Rust Inhibitive Coating 12oz Aerosol

Problem I have is when welding the sections to the old frame I’m sure the interior paint is being burnt away.

After this is done I’ll probably maintain it with some sort of oil product.

Unfortunately i didn’t photograph the inside when prepped but i will on the passenger side.

This is a fun project but in the end next time I’ll spend more and buy a rust free Jeep
