What did you do to your TJ today?

Happy birthday Bruiser 🎂🎉
27 years to the day my Jeep rolled off the assembly line in Toledo.
Treated her to a bath and tried this new Maguires insane shine paint glosser….
It certainly put a shine on it not sure if it’s an “ insane shine” tho 🤪

I took it out for a test drive to check the trans fluid.

On the drive, I saw a fellow TJ on the side of the road in a position that you knew wasn't good. I turned around and he said that it had just died on him. I helped him push it to a parking spot and we talked about it a bit. He said that the battery died a week ago but he charged it back up. He was driving it, it was idling weird, and then it just died on him. Wouldn't start back up on him. I suggested battery, alternator, or vacuum leak possibly. He said he sprayed out the engine bay a few weeks ago, but didn't cover anything up. I also told him that it is unlikely, but possible, that spraying out the engine bay did something to the PCM, alternator, or water got into the air box.

It wasn't much help, but I did help out a fellow TJ owner today.

Installed the re-finished door panels today. The cracks are still visible but they are no longer open and they are acceptable to me. Sometimes if you try and work that stuff to perfection you end up making it worse.

I didn't force the cracks closed thinking that might cause stress and they will just re-open, Instead I left them relaxed and filled them . I taped the edges and leveled the JB Weld with a razor blade and lightly sanded it with some #400 once it dried. I bought the HF plastic welder but never took it out of the box, decided to use JB Weld plastic bond instead.

After careful prep, multiple color coats and 3 days baking in the Arizona sun the finish is very hard and I am optimistic that it will hold up.

It’s back on its own weight, a lot to finish up weld everything up, paint, brake lines, amongst many other things. Trimming of the brackets, checking clearances again it’s real close to touching back of bracket at full droop. All said a productive day, a ton of stuff to finish but good milestone. Sitting at 99” on the money…

Axle back out and welding everything in and then paint. Ran brake lines and set those up to go back in once all welded and painted.

I'm not sure the extent of your crack repair on your panels, but if the cracks come back, drill a small hole at the end so it doesn't spread. I used some wire gutter guard and JB Weld plastic bonder on the inside of the door panel, after scuffing the plastic with some rough sandpaper, to reinforce it. The gutter guard worked, but @zebra12 suggested this ACE Hardware self-adhesive drywall patch. It worked great and was way easier to cut and form than the gutter guard was. Both have held up well so far for 5 years.

I actually did back up the repair with the yellow mesh for roofing repairs. My cracks were only at the usual top area where they all crack, and only about 1.5" long.

Thanks for this... another job to add to the list.

I want my "ring of fire" to flash and be the last thing drivers see when they look up from their phone and hit the brakes. ;)

I do a lot of coasting and down shifting with my 5 speed and often I don't show any brake lights at all, or just briefly if I have to come to a complete stop. I've noticed that this tends to make people drop back a bit thinking I don't have brake lights.

I do the same thing.

Since first getting my BM brakes I like to use my brakes aggressively. Especially when someone is tailgating me, or I see them on their phone. 🤫

I've noticed that too as I do the same thing. I'm NOT a typical American Automatic Transmission Driver with my foot on one pedal or the other all the time. I downshift automatics as well.

Same here. My TDI has DSG which I love, when coasting into a light I can feel it downshifting and engine braking by itself. Both my Sprinter and Powerstroke require driver input though. I shake my head at all the people who stay on the gas till they catch up to a group of cars then hit the brakes. I see a lot of them going from gas to brake to gas to brake repeatedly just while cruising along in steady speed traffic. Usually they are just following too close resulting in having to brake often when the gap gets too small. To me it's just like tossing money out the window.

I call those "blinkies", and I either pass them, or I drop WAAAY back as their brake lites have become meaningless, and I have no way of knowing if they "mean it this time" or not. Hate that crap.
