What did you do to your TJ today?

New undercover fab aluminum bumper. If you have any ideas where to put front license plate hit me up.

Savvy cable shifter. Fairly easy install but you'll need to drop the skid.

id LIKE to figure out how to use the original with the now adapter plate but I do NOT know where to put my shifter and 4WD handle--Postion
before or after Removal?
the plate has 2 holes below the bolts holding it im in the lowest holes, so im assuming remove the plate and it goes into the holes the bolts are now in

so where do I put my shifters once apart? as you can read im confused
im tapped out for cash so it a need to go with the original part
thank you
cheers
John

You'll be much better off with a SAVVY. Even on a stock Jeep, it is one of the best things to change.

Yes, just remove that plate and bolt the bracketry back in to the original holes. You can make any adjustments needed for shiter alignment after that. All that bracket does is drop the linkage down so it stays in the same relative position to the transfer case when the skid plate has been dropped.

Is this original linkage loose and adjustable? I was able to make the original linkage work with 4” springs. Granted it eventually failed and i installed Savvy cable but it worked for a bit.
Use the lowest set of holes for the linkage after installing to the tub. Manually shift the transfer case to low and handle all the way up.

Well that’s my way. It works.

Massive kudos to you on all the work you did on your Jeep! It looks great. You have mad skills! Thanks for sharing and documenting so elaborately for everyone. I will be using a lot of your ideas.

Thank you for your kind words, but my Jeep skill set is like a fart in a windstorm compared to a lot of the guys here. Most of the ideas came from others on this forum, not me!

Daughter's 97 had a tail light out for a little while before I could get to it. Yesterday I discovered I had a spare on hand, but it still didn't work after replacing so I figured I had a bad ground (or worse).

Then she's heading out last night and tells me her dash lights don't work. I check the "panel lamps" fuse, but it looks to be ok. She was driving in a well-lit area so I wasn't too worried about no dash lights. Later that night my wife was following behind her on the way home and discovered that she had no tail lights at all, and only 1 brake light. Yikes.

Great. I'm always preaching about the merits of opening up a harness, but I seriously don't have time for that sort of project right now. So I decide to put minimal effort in this afternoon. Started swapping bulbs around and determined that the replacement bulb didn't work at all. But I found one in her glove box from the PO, and it did work. So i have 2 known working bulbs. But the tail lights will still not come on. Decided to check the fuses again and discovered the "park lamps" (?) fuse was blown. Replaced it, and suddenly everything worked again.

I'm on edge as to why it blew in the first place, but now we know that if the dash lights go out you probably have a problem on your hands. And she now knows how to replace a fuse.

Installed a Rusty's OffRoad radiator skid. Sounds only prudent, and it was cheap enough.

It does beg the question for those who are familiar with this thing: My '06 has rather large elongated holes that are used to bolt the radiator skid in place. However, Rusty's supplied washers were no-where near large enough - the bolts basically dropped right through with a small amount of encouragement - head, washer and all. So do earlier TJs have smaller holes in this location?

In any event, I had some washers in my junk drawer that worked perfectly.

But wait! There's more!

After I had updated my webpage with today's work, I suddenly had a horrifying thought: Were the two "Vice Grips" that I used to hold the top of the skid's mounting bolts still there? I drove the jeep about 3 miles on an errand after I was done working on it.

The Gods and angels watch over fools and drunks, and I don't drink!

Of course, the camera focused on the wrong thing in this grab shot at nite, but there's the one...

and the other!

The bottom one would have been a terrible loss - a "Lever-Wrench". They don't make them anymore. The top one I found under the hood of a '67 Mercedes W110 finback that was in the local junkyard many years ago. Glad they didn't fall off.

as savvy has you bolting a bracket to where the original bracket is for the 4WD Lever

The automatic transmission has its own cable already. It has nothing to do with the transfercase shift linkage.

Yeah, looks like a stock transfercase shifter with a drop plate.

Just to be clear what exactly are you trying to do?

Are you removing the transfercase skid plate drop and wanting to return the shift linkage back to it's stock location?

YES I have a 4inch lift on it now, ive dropped the front and back springs, shocks arms ect to Stock
now ive removed the belly pan and was going to remove the "plate" that drops the linkage and put it back into the stock holes
but folks here advised to replace with the savvy while ive got it apart but im confused as to how BOTH sets of linkage hooks back up
when there is only 1 cable
sorry but im brain-fart challenged and ive ridden the short buss for 20+ years now
I find pictures and video is more comprehensible for my learning challenges

if you replace the stock linkage with a cable shifter all those link bars go away.

if you just want to keep the factory linkage just remove that flat plate that is bolted to the bracket on the underside of the body tub, and once you raise the transmission and transfercase back up that pivot rod will line up between the bracket on the transmission housing and the bracket on the tub.

You need to decide what you want to do before asking for help doing it.
