Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

What did you do to your TJ today?

I love your choice of frame coating to prevent rust. That stuff lasts much longer than Fluid Film. ;) (y)
Can't drive it, without blowing the engine, to the car wash. :p For some reason the engine thinks it needs a radiator.

I've gotta clean it off before the 16th. The shop said I better have it cleaned before it goes in for frame repair. The shop owner is a friend.

PARTS ORDERD!!

Ok, my buddy came by my garage today and he believes its incorrect carrier preload, I agree. I am to remove pinion gear and clean up current locker. He will come back over and get it done together. He sees marks on housing thats this has happened before and was not fixed correctly. “Some flex going on in the pumpkin with 35” tires and turbo charged 4.0” he said. I had the ok from wife to break into e-fund to get new locker, he said no!!! Use what we got and order only what we need. He has a yard full of axles we are to fab a custom 44 axle to fit in with FABTECH 3 point later down the line. Gave him $40 for lunch. 😃

IMG_3832.pngIMG_3831.png

I forgot all about mentioning to him these ops were not done, bingo he said there’s your problem no pinion shave with improper carriage preload, lube improvement would help too. More work, All…..good!

Agreed.

I have been debating putting a marker light in the inner fender. Can you post a further away picture of it at night?

Haha, I can try 😂. Rather difficult to grasp it with a phone camera. They are not the brightest. Once the headlights are on it kind of washes it out.

Oh boy I'm not sure where to even start with that one.

Mine is also an '05. It was my first foray into boosting a previously naturally aspirated engine and doing any kind of tuning. I never liked the way the fuel timing computer Boosted Tech provides worked. Eventually it started flaking out and running lean then quit altogether. I turned to tuning the factory PCM using HPTuners and running bigger injectors but the intake temps are just too high running a roots blower bolted directly to the intake. I now run meth injection to cool the charge air and it's still almost too hot.

I don't want to be a downer or discourage you but my honest advice would be to sell the boosted tech kit and make it somebody else's problem. And if you're really set on a boost build, go turbo or procharger. Something where you can run a proper front mount intercooler. Or skip all of the above and just do a stroker. If you're set on the boosted tech kit maybe install it as intended with the 7th injector but I'd want to install a wideband o2 sensor and boost gauge so you can at least see that it's enriching properly. Maybe you'll have better luck than me. Definitely mount the fuel/timing computer in the interior somewhere. And maybe ignorance is bliss with the IAT. I never would have known the charge air was so hot with the setup the way Boosted Tech runs it. I moved the temp sensor to the aluminum bucket between the supercharger and the intake manifold. The supercharger heats up the air massively. Those roots blowers are hot to begin with, not to mention the reverse flow nature of the 4.0 head It's just too much. And that little plastic Fenner Drive pulley they provide for the belt is garbage.

I also think if I were to do it over I'd just run an aftermarket engine management system like a Link or Haltech. That's what I'm in the process of doing with my old Celica now. Then you can find somebody local who's well versed in tuning those systems and can put it on a dyno.

As much as I like the supercharged Jeep and the blower whine and everything, any time somebody asks me if it was worth it the answer is no.

Thanks for the advice!

I know the temperature issues and I’m also planning to run meth injection.

In my case, I bought the kit cheap, and also have a friend that is expert in HP Tunners and works with a Dyno so worth to try it.

There is any chance you can send me pictures of your setup? (Specially to see vacuum hoses routing). Also where did you put the meth injector?. If you are ok I can DM my mail or my phone.

Best regards

Mariano

Oops, brain fart, forgot to order carrier bearings, took care of that today and few items at harbor freight. Everything should roll in next Thursday/Friday.
Yikes, watching news, quake Northern California. I think I will go out put some wheels under my Jeep. 🤔

Last few months took care of some deferred maintenance. POR-15’d the rear axle and rock sliders, replaced rear brakes with Black Magic pads and Centric rotors, greased both driveshafts, new rear tires, oil change, new plugs. My Arizona LJ is like new again. In Minnesota now, never seen salt til now. And someone stole, or it fell off, my trail ready badge. Replaced it with an upgrade! IMG_2651.jpegIMG_2647.jpeg

Finally no 90 degree plus weather the past couple of weeks and took the hard top off and enjoying the cool front in the mid 70’s.

When I had my '22 Gladiator, I replaced the one that fell off with bourbon rated.

So the results are in. The 48hour cruise on the USS New York is over. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Absolutely amazing.
I won’t bore you with the details but what you guys wanna know is how happy is Ben with his Rubicon build.

The passenger is my daughter Luci. She drives a YJ

Let the smile say it all

And, CEL is out.

I have to admit that the first time reading this post today brought a tear in my eye, and a lump in my throat.

But we want details...

Ok a few small ones.

We got to be in the Main Space when the engines were fired up. Double ear protection and coveralls. We watched them fire 2 V16 Colt-Pielstick There are 4 on board the NY and my son, Ben and his bestie, Jerry, yes Ben and Jerry, are in charge of Main 1 that houses these two. They are massive and awesome. They dry crank the engine 3 minutes to prelube the cylinders just like I do my Shovelhead.

The two laughing are my cousin Sean and my brother from another mother Rory. Both played a huge role in building the character my son is.

If’n I knew how to share a video I’d let you hear em run. 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is an LCAC entering the hull of the ship pretty badass. They put two in there and then they left the following morning to head to Little Creek.

We BS’d with the Captain and so many other amazing Sailors that have volunteered to serve.

Saw some cool artwork. My son is a Snipe. Look it up

We played Star Wars in the Helo Bridge. Here you see Han and Chewy flying the Millennium Falcon.

Little proud dad moment

Tomorrow we chill and make thanksgiving dinner for Ben and a few other Sailors. Sunday he goes back to the ship and we head home. He will be home (NY) by Christmas for a two week leave.

While home we will go see how that Rubi wheels.

Thanks for your support in this build and interest in my trip.

God bless America and the US Military

VERY cool - thanx for sharing. Brings back some memories for sure as I spent my share of time on board ships (Civilian). Fine looking young man you have there.

Finally had some free time to start the new rear shelf/storage area…
18 mil ply will stop it from flexing too much
IMG_7220.jpeg

Grabbed 4 galvanised turnbuckles and hook them up to the existing mounts for the backseat… tightening these down means that no one can lift the shelf up when the top is down….
Fingers crossed it’s easy to take out if I have to put the backseat in again…
Tomorrow I will give it a lick of paint and carpet to match the bed rug

IMG_7224.jpeg
IMG_7225.jpeg

I now have a lot more room without that centre divider like I had on my first shelf attempt..

Got my original "Hubs" Painted to go with the Original Rims I painted ,,without blowing myself up 18deg outside and 68 in the Garage
using my proPAIN turbo heater. made a cardboard paint booth with the heater pointed at it got everything nice and warm Hubs, paint, clearcoat
and went to town, I stood in front of the heater 5 ft behind me as i sprayed, then moved so it would dry/tacky like the directions said Then a second coat of paint. Then the UV clear coat. moving and waiting as above and did 2 coats of protection

Pictures are not the best bad lighting there now hanging over my woodstove im my cave to harden up, although they were touchable/NON sticky
after 20 min of TURBO time, cant decide it I want to do the centers in Black, or maybe just the indented Ring

supposed to warm up to 40deg wend and thurs so ill jack up the jeep and get them mounted onto the rims using less propain in the garage
there still hanging over the woodstove in my cave :)
