What did you do to your TJ today?

Massive air attack today before wind picks up again. DC10 tanker with fire retardant. Will not get the slimline bearings and pressed on the ARB until Monday. Just cleaned things up today and watched tanker fly by, at least 10 runs. Brentwood near Palisades and Encino in the valley threatened. I keep a very close I on the dry Verdugo hills near my resides. Have not slept much.

I know the feeling living in northern CA. It’s stressful. We got dropped from HOI a couple years ago. We do our best to keep things cleared around the structures.

Installed a KENWOOD Excelon single DIN head unit, 4” CDT audio coaxials and 6.5” Sony ES coaxials as a first phase sound upgrade. Phase 2 I’ll be replacing the front coaxials with 3 way components running fully active with an Audison DSP, and installing a single 10” woofer.

I actually miss the look of the original 1.5 DIN cassette deck. I bagged it and I’m saving it. I may end up reinstalling, as the DSP amp can have direct connection to it from a device.

Also replaced the headlights with some LED summit lights. They look factory-ish and got really good reviews. We’ll try them out tonight.

I found the sound on the OE radio was poor. Upgrade to a low end Alpine was such an improvement.
Put the tweeters from the component speakers up on the A pillars.

I’m doing 3 way components up front. 5.25 mid-woofer in the factory dash/knee area with a 3” mid and 1” silk dome tweeter in the A-pillar area. It’s going to be a process, as I have to design and 3D print an enclosure that fits somewhere in the A-pillar area without obstructing the driver’s view.

Will those A-pillar trims fit a 2000 or are they specific to the refresh models?

The Alpine X Series tweeters came with flush mount enclosures and 2 face tape. They're holding OK so far.

Oh boy it sits pretty dang high in back,I like a bit of rake for when I'm hauling parts but dayuum😅
Hopefully they'll settle a good bit like the front 😁

Don't worry. One of the rough country 2.5" rear springs i removed from my jeep had sagged lower than stock.

My TJ and I read this today. I wonder if the record had been broken by now.

Acknowledged by Jeep as the current world record holder for the highest-mileage Jeep in the world is a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4x4, still running the original engine at 612,000 miles. The latest update on this SUV dates back to February 2011, with the driver, Jan Richey, reporting that it was still serving as her daily after more than thirty years on the road.
p.s. My brother had 287,000 miles on his 4 cylinder 89' Pioneer when he sold it because of hail damage.

The trim does not fit

Swapped out the T-case last week with a known low mileage (50k) t-case from another 06’ LJ. Only difference was the part number was different by 1 digit on the paper tag. Jumped in it yesterday to take the wife for a ride and I had the worst vibration I have ever felt. As I was completely confused I spent today running over the rig. Pulled all the tires, checked for weights that fell off, checked joints and found 1 bad ball joint. Tossed in a new set of ball joints while I pondered the vibration issue.
Figured maybe it was the pinion angle that changed with the case. Everything measured the same but fuck it. Let start from the top. Worked my way through the pinion angles 4/-4 and for the life of me I couldn’t get the vibration to go away. Next I pulled the rear shaft, locked the hubs and did a test drive in front wheel drive. Smooth as ever, no vibration.
Finally tossed in the towel. Plugged in the old t-case and set the pinion to zero. Bam! No more vibration. Guess I’ll toss this T-case in the rebuild pile and I’ll compare it to the one installed now at a later date. It’s beyond me why one caused the vibration and the other works great, but sure enough one caused vibration.

I finally got home from my 4WD trip. Travelling max. 60 km/h for the last 850 km because of that leaking diff. A somehow mesmerising experience...
It'll be fixed next week, so I used the time to clean it inside and outside.

Glad you made it home mate..... the outback is no place to be stranded.

Damn....
Hopefully that won't happen since my rig is somewhat light, especially the rear
I won't be too mad.....afterall I spent 200 bucks for new springs&shocks,I was primarily in it for the shocks but was willing to put in the springs for fun 😁
