What did you do to your TJ today?

Went for a drive as it was a beautiful day with top off.
Between 35-55 I get a wheel shake. Tried swapping front to back on the left side. Hoping it was going to fix it, no luck. Going to try right side.

What’s the trick to getting 33s balanced? I’m assuming it’s a balancing issue and I just had these done back in September. Jeep is summer driven so it’s not like it saw the bad weather.. everything is tight up front.

Living in a winter climate I have many friends who disagree. I kind of on the wire. But discs on the rear axle in a salt filled winter environment seldom last more than 4 years, drums tend to last forever. Front disc brakes just like TJ frames from the transfer case forward last forever. Also Rubicon parking brakes, the size of a hockey puck, are useless. I quit fixing mine 10 years ago. I just put it in first and shut off the engine. But I agree discs are simpler to work on.
Now see, I learned something new today. I was just looking at it from a performance and ease of working on it standpoint. I don't know chit about cold weather equipment!

changed my rear diff oil, I do this every summer & usually just pop the drain plug but today I pulled the cover for the first time in a couple years to inspect the gears, everything looks to be in order; couldn't get a good shot of the pinion but I got the light in there & spun it around a few times by the shaft & it also looks perfect

ordered this thing 2 weeks ago, I think it traveled around the globe before showing up today, Amazon suggested it was 'lost' and that I should request a refund and reorder which I was going to do on Monday but alas it appeared. Never used one before, I like it

spun everything around a few times just to be sure, I couldn't find any chips or anything else that looked out of place, ARB works as expected also.

Gear porn! 😍

Tried swapping tires with my Ranger but the lugs on the Jeep were shorter than I’d like for the adapters. I was interested to see how much smoother it would’ve been for my trip next week. Oh well, it was only a temporary switch anyhow.

OME springs, rancho shocks, adjustable track bars.

Before
20200627_101805.jpg

34 inches front measured floor to middle of fender through the tire center, 36 inches in rear.

After
20200628_150425.jpg

37.25 inches front, 38.75 rear with .75 inch front spacer.

So the rake went from 2 to 1.5 inches. We'll see where it settles.

Only thing left is to line up the holes on the adjustable track bar and put the bolts in. I'll do that after a break.

It took 10 hours with some store runs, breaks, and cleaning and touching up paint underneath, taking up about 4 hours of that.

88 degrees today, 68% relative humidity, 97 degree heat index. Blech, but it's going to be hotter this week.
