What did you pay for your winch?

I am starting to shop for a winch now as well . I picked up a like new Rampage from bumper that came with a Badlands 12k winch but I don’t need that big . Also by chance one of my employees that has been busting his but for me lately was drooling over it for his Blazer project. So it is unbolted and going to be delivered to him this week. Thinking about splurging on the M8S . Every time I cut a corner I seem to regret it . That being said I have an Engo on a trailer that has been great .I know Warn would run holiday specials on Motorsport winches I assume they would do the same for the bigger stuff ?
If it all works it looks like an excellent price, those power plants are expensive and work well.
I got my 8274 as a basket case for $300cdn in kijiji, then I ran the price up to about a grand rebuilding and upgrading it.

Thanks he’s had it listed for a while now. Hopefully he would go down in price. I need a compressor and a winch so this looks good

I guess I'm still pretty much a noob especially when it comes to winches. I bought a RC Pro Series 9500 synthetic lead for $399 for my wife's Jeep and we do off road with it. I didn't buy it blind, I did read reviews and saw a comparison of it compared to the Baricade of similar price.
I started second guessing my choice and then came across another Jeep forum that states the following...
"If it's not a Ramsey, Warn, Tabor, or Superwinch's X9 or S9000, it's made in China. Chinese winches include Chicago Electric, Smittybilt, Champion, Bulldog, Rough Country, any Milemarker electric model, Superwinch except for X9 and S9000 which are both US made, and many others that are now being advertised more and more."
One guy even commented that his low end Warn was made in China. Any of the Superwinch guys confirm where there's was built?

The warn vr series to the best of my knowledge is assembled in the US from foreign parts.

Superwinch is made in China, just like almost everything else. If you're looking for 100% American made, avoid the VR stuff (as mentioned above me, it's only assembled in the US) and go for the classic M8000.
But just because something's made in China doesn't mean it's inherently bad quality. There's been plenty of crap made in the US just as there's been great things made abroad. Not that you shouldn't stick to buying from US if you believe in that, just make sure that you follow reputation of a product rather just where it's made.
8,000 lbs. The rule of thumb is generally 1.5 times your vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating. Jeeps tend to run around 5,000, hence the 8,000 number that you'll see around these forums.
Just realize that if you are using a rope with a winch and the planetary/motor is housed in the drum, it can get hot enough to damage the rope. If you find and 8274 warn, it is tall enough to restrict air flow through the radiator. The 8274 is the standard that most winches are measured to, but not commonly used any more. The smaller winches are way more common even if they are slower but rated the same. I have read reviews that a harbor freight winch is a good quality for one that is not used a lot, Warn is an excellent brand alone with other name brand ones. Just find one with the features you want (air compressor, remote control, etc.)Tim
That is an old myth and I don't think it has ever happened during any normal use. The drum only warms up if you power out against the brake for a long period of time. It's faster to free spool the line out.
Paid $950 for my Warn 9.5CTI, then got a $100 rebate on top of that. Bought it at the EJS vendor show.
Apparently warn has a new version of the 8274 out, the 8274-70. It's 10k lbs just as fast as the old ones and limited to 999 of them. I think the price tag was about 2500 USD or so.

Let's see...the first wife got the house, the cars...everything except my tools. That was about $150,000. The second wife got half my retirement, plus half the value of the house. That was close to $180,000. The third got.........oh, wait.......you said "winch", didn't you? My bad! :facepalm:
