What do you run on your vents?

I have little filters on my front axle and transfer case vent hoses. Well went to get a smog check and the guy was afraid of the little filters. I explained they are for vents, well he would not do smog check, because of them.
I'm asking if you run a filter or cap type of vent?

Stock plastic cap.
Although, I think there are some that have a one-way valve to help keep water out.

Sounds like a state or county inspection station. I have a non-catalyst Powerstroke and I always have to point out the non-catalyst sticker on the valve cover, it really confuses them. As for vent caps I have OEM, never thought about dust entry.

Wow what a weird inspection. Smog checks are getting more and more stupid. I don't live in an area that requires that so I don't worry about that.

I use the factory vents. If I break one, I'll use these from Dorman.

They are for letting air pressure out when a case heats up.
However, air has to go back in to equalize when cool.

Ok, that makes sense. I still doubt there is any need for that sort of filter....

I had the 12mm filters on hand and so used them, since I did not have the cap vents at the moment...
