What is the best year and model of Wrangler?

That's a loaded question. It really depends. I prefer the 2000 and newer for the coil rail ignition. Then it would depend on whether you wanted a manual transmission or an automatic. For a manual I, I like the 5 speed over the 6 speed, so 2000-2004. For an automatic, I would go with the 3 speed over the 4 speed, so 2000- 2002. Just my opinion though.

Some years are prone to cracked heads. Others got the failing ODPA. The 4 speed auto is not a favorite. The early exhaust manifolds can crack. The later ones have too many cats. Some TJs are too long. Other TJs are not long enough. The 6 speed is geared nicely but not the strongest.

Yep, right before they added the PCM as a single module (which combines the ECM and TCM as one), and the extra nonsense B.S. emissions crap.

If I ever need to replace my engine, I’ll put a 2003-2004 engine in it and swap over all the wiring and ECM / TCM.
