Crawled under 2004 x v6 just to take a look and found this. 1st jeep and had it for a year and never noticed anything except hard to put in and out of 4x4. It is under drivers side by transmission.
Have you ever looked under the hood? That is the big square thing in front of the windshield ( that glass thing). I bet you will find out it is not a v6 but a straight 6. Let me know.
No need to flame someone for making a mistake. In fact, that is what sets this forum apart from the others.
X 3 and most of the people on this great forum too by the looks of all the 'likes'X2

Well saidNo need to flame someone for making a mistake. In fact, that is what sets this forum apart from the others.
I'd guess them there phrophets never tempered any steel to make it tougher. Near miraculous changes in metal and attitudes can be accomplished with a judicious application of flame. What doesn't respond well to flame are snowflakes. Try as I might, I've never been able to get any of them little shits to stay frozen in the presence of a good flame."Flame no one" said the phrophets.
Out of curiosity, how many reports of this failure have you heard of? If you even pay a modicum of attention, it is fairly prevalent and so much so that the repair and where to get the part is very common knowledge.Does this even shift gears? It shouldn't with the linkage disconnected. This is a fairly common problem I learned after a friend had his come apart in the middle of a switch back on Black Bear Pass last year. Whole other story!
Correct. At no point has anyone ever reported that the trans will still shift when that bushing is missing. If it did, no one would ever need to replace it, would they?It happens enough that I carry a spare bushing for the shifter cable where it attaches to the transmission. The indication that repair is needed is pretty simple, the transmission won't shift.
