Summer maintenance on the trencher. It has a T18 4 speed trans. When running the trenching chain in 4th gear It would “pop” out. Strapping the lever in position got the job done but we (son in pic) decided to tear it down and see what’s up.

Whoa, nice welds. I haven't welded stainless since college and that's better than I could ever do. That makes my rehashed slot car track project look wimpy by comparison.

I built a ammo can propane fire pit today for my solo camp trips when I don't want to take my larger one or my wood burning fire pit. Quick fun little project that has 3 settings ... cook mode, camp fire mode and forest fire mode. 
I still have to make some folding legs for it.

The three settings reminded me of the settings on the Coleman M1950 camp stoves I use when I'm feeling like I should punish myself. Off and Charred.
I can call this a success.
There are four cross overs, two chicanes, and some serious banked curves. The steepest bank is 45*.

The Firebird on the left I've had since about 1970. It was a terror on the HO track at The Hobby Barn in Antioch, IL before I discovered girls. Now it's just old. The AMXs are new and screamers. The 58 Plymouth is also new, but already has a stripped gear and needs a rebuild. Not shown is a Ghostbusters Ecto-1 that is just a piece o' crap and already relegated to the HO junkyard.

The track is Tyco. The Firebird is an honest to god Aurora Thunderjet 500, which preceded AFX by 8 years. The other three are Auto World copies of the Thunderjet.
Love it. My cousin and I used to set-up a drag strip down the length of the hallway, and duke it out. We had quite a selection of cars, including some of the earliest ones with the really thin/narrow rubber tires. He even had a yellow Cheetah. I forget what the fastest brand was at the time, but win or lose, we had a blast!

I made some progress on my SAS Colorado camping truck today. I’m building a rear bumper/tire carrier.

I learned of an old hole in the wall hobby shop about twenty miles from us. Mrs.Cheesy talked me into going to see it. I walked in and was kind of underwhelmed by what I saw. I did find some NOS T-jet silver brushes, silicone tires, and a couple of top plates with armatures. The owner asked what else I was looking for, so I told him. He told me to open the door to the back room.
Oh My God. There were AMT, Revell, Monogram, Lindberg, etc, etc, car kits. Hundreds of them. Also hundreds of HO slot cars and model rocket kits. Jeez, I was 12 years old again. Mrs. Cheesy told me to go nuts. Three of the cars, the blue CJ, burgandy Javelin, and black Studebaker(Stupidbaker) are Autoworld T-jets. The AMC bodies are Xtraction models, the Stude is a basic T-jet and slower than the 50+ year Firebird. The red Mustang is a Life Like brand. Never seen one and it was the cheapest of the bunch. It's also the fastest. By a lot.
I may be going back on Saturday. There was this 1960 DeSoto Adventurer convertible kit...
