But since it is a knob you turn, you can grip it tight and regardless of how rough the ride it will hold a steady rpm until you twist it. But either will work well. The vernier style definitely allows finer, more precise control. If that's used while driving on a rough trail it'd be very hard to keep a steady hand
Exactly why I put it there, easy to reach but not hit accidentally. But since it is a knob you turn, you can grip it tight and regardless of how rough the ride it will hold a steady rpm until you twist it. But either will work well.
Do you have an under hood photo at the firewall ?Exactly why I put it there, easy to reach but not hit accidentally.
Can you post the one you ordered?Do you have an under hood photo at the firewall ?
I just went to Amazon and ordered one.

The Vernier knob is not a plug and play thing, more of a DIY.This is where it exits the firewall View attachment 75449
Yeh I just use it on trails that are a rougher ride to keep me from blipping the throttle every bump and winching. I’m fairly low too with 4:1 and 5.38’sI've got a Vernier knob mounted on my Kilby/York bracket. I use it to control the RPM for the OBA, OBW and the winch. I don't have a hand throttle since I have 5:1 Atlas, slipping the clutch is a non-issue.
Thanks. I’ve been looking for info on these for another project that I’m working on.I have had hand throttles on several jeeps, including both bicycle shifters and a vernier hand throttle control. One member's supposition that if a vernier control is used for driving on a rough trail that it would be difficult to keep a steady hand for adjustment is completely unfounded.
A vernier hand throttle works well both on rough trails and for elevating rpms for winch/onboard air use. So does a bicycle shifter. It is simply a matter of personal preference and budget. I prefer the vernier control to a bicycle shifter because no matter how well a shifter might work it still looks like a cobbled together Rube Goldberg device.
YMMV

PS - If one has the budget there is also the option of an electronic throttle control. I am not sure if these are still available because I didn't get a response when I inquired about them last year, but they are currently listed on the website:

Here is the Mopar part number for the return spring. I bought a few cause they’re hard to find.
is that a carbon fibre fender ?? $$$$$
That's what ran through my head when I saw them. "This guy's playing a different game than I am"is that a carbon fibre fender ?? $$$$$
JK is drive by wire which is done how on a TJ?If anybody is looking at doing a hand throttle it is much easier if you actuate the gas pedal like a JK, at least mine was. There is no need to go in the engine compartment.
Hand throttle attached to the gas pedal instead of the throttle body, which is necessary on the JK because of the drive by wire thing. Works great on the TJ too. Hope that makes sense.JK is drive by wire which is done how on a TJ?
