What Wrangler should I buy?

One more point, how stiff should the suspension be? I weigh about 200 pounds when jumping on the front or rear bumper it barely moves an inch
His YJ has a leaf spring suspension which is well known to ride stiff as hell. He might also have stiff shocks installed too which would make its ride even worse. I'd go with a 1997-2004 Wrangler TJ which has a coil spring suspension whose ride is like a Cadillac when compared to the YJ.

The danger with 9000.00 bucks is it gets you nice 2.5 4 cylinder or a not so nice 4.0 sport or x territory. You want a solid, 4.0 TJ, ideally stock, and I say that because if you can’t evaluate a lifted TJ from experience it is a gamble. Jerry is spot on as usual, and to judge a TJ by a YJ is like listening to Barry Manilow on the way to a Metallica Concert- both are music but totally different experiences.

I rented a Razor in Silverton recently. Fast and fun, and wished I was in my dry, warm TJ every minute.

And Oregon doesn’t allow SXS on roads.

So, don’t think you can buy one and rice the roads. Now, in your town/county you might have them ignore that law but you can’t drive them on public roads.

That YJ sounds fucked.

Without details…..

9k sounds like bottom of TJ models.

But, if it’s a toy, a higher mileage one can be a good option.

I really enjoy YJ's. Thats a personal choice. I also dont give two shit's about bouncy rides vs soft, plush rides. Ive had people say my Jeeps are bouncy or jostling. One a Tj, the other a JKU. Either way, Its never going to be very quiet (w a hardtop, mine is respectable) or Cadillac smooth. You'd be surprised what some people expect.

Some Jeeps also vary how they ride, primarily when lifted, and how. All stated, yes, a TJ will ride better. But some people prefer the YJ, still.

You'll need to test drive both. Find one F/S (best at a lot - though YJ's are quite rare now) and see which you prefer. I personally would take either. Especially if equipped with AC. And IDGAF what anyone says.....AC is a damn nice option to have on a Jeep, nonmatter the year. Thats my personal opinion.
