Wheelbase Stretches on 35s

I’m back on 35s and stretched out. I will have to remeasure because when I put in the 12” travel shocks this spring I had to shorten the rear arms a bit in order to get full stuff with the 60. I have a Genright tank and a four link out back. I purchased the axle, tank, corner armor and 4 link stuff all in a package years ago. I had also outboarded the rear shocks at that time as well but didn’t do a great job of it to be honest. The stretch tank and 4 link were fine but I was after max stretch over max flex so the outboarded shocks and uptravel were compromised. It helped the Jeep feel a whole lot more stable on climbs, and had a much better departure angle on drop offs since it was on 37s at the time. When I redid all the stuff this spring and was more concerned with uptravel than final wheelbase numbers I lost a little bit of the rear stretch I had but I also pushed the front as far as the steering would let me without doing a steering box relocation and got about 1.5” up front with everything staying happy. I actually just finished assembling a new set of rear control arms for the rear and will get them installed in the next day or two and I’ll take some measurements. I must not have used enough anti seize on the JJ ends as the lower end of my lower arms were rusted/frozen and no longer adjustable so after trying to break them free a few times, drilling small holes and filling them with PB Blaster, a torch and a 4’ cheater bar without luck. Then having to make adjustments the hard way with just one adjustable end. I just bought eight JJoints and some 2”x.25” wall DOM and built some new links an inch shorter than my old ones so I could get all the adjustments I need in. Once I get my Atlas tucked up a bit more and my belly pan raised up a little more I’ll be all set. These new shocks ride so much better. And once I dialed in the front arm geometry after my flop it climbs stable again. I know you will recognize the rock pile here.

i'm in the 108 -109" range i think. my rear drive shaft is over 32" long now.

why? wheelbase and wheel spread add stability and i wanted to challenge myself..

i rebuilt the whole back end of the frame narrower and higher, from the last body mount under the doors back.

slight rake there in the pic, my big spares not in the back end yet .

I know @sjalkian did a 5" stretch using the Genright tank. He can jump in and fill out the details! ;)

I stretched the rear by 5”. I did so to gain more stability specifically on steep climbs and dropping off big boulders.

I got there by getting a Genright tank which allowed me to maintain 19.5 gallons and get 5” with my Dana 44. I took the opportunity to outboard the rear shocks and various other things that my build thread explains.

Did you/ do you plan to go bigger than 35? 108/109 seems a little long for 35s?

@SvtLdr made some towers for my coilovers. Got some locked off road hydro bumps, TMR limit straps, and some joints/DOM/small truss. The year previous I already moved to a small aluminum fuel tank in preparation for a stretch. Then of course went straight to a small hill and air’d it out 😂
