Where do you mount your communications radios?

I'm adding a small GMRS radio and looking for mounting options. Share with us what you've done to mount your communications radios!

Add a CB too or you'll be missing out on 90% of the trail communications.

This is my 2m ham plus CB underneath it. It's supported by the Arizona Rocky Road CB mount which requires no drilling and it hides the wiring too. It works so well I used it in both of my Wranglers. The 2m is a Yaesu FT-2900R and the CB is a Uniden Pro-520XL. Both are pretty much bulletproof and problem-free.

I got small gmrs and cb radios with all the controls on the microphone. I buried both mine behind the FM radio with cables running to jacks in the factory switch holes. Short of the antennas on the back once the mic is unplugged it completely disappears.

I have a Cobra 75, so that one is easy. The box is under my Tuffy console.

For the OP, I have CB and Ham. CB is right below the cigarette lighter and three-switch panel, mounted to the bottom of the dash. When in 1st gear, the shifter is about 1” from it. Only fit that way because I got the Uniden 520, which is fairly compact, and which you see in Jerry’s photo.

My ham unit has a detachable/remote face, so the main unit is under the passenger seat. So add that to your list of possible locations, like the console and glovebox mentioned by others.

Can you provide more photos of the mount, especially how it mounts to the Jeep? Their website is horrible.
It bolts through the front of the rollbars above the windows. There is an existing vertical bolt hole at the forward end of the rollbar so the bolt (1 per side) drops down through the mount and rollbar with the nut underneath.

Here's a little wider angle look at it.

Thanks. Is that the same hole the door surrounds attach to?

Mine is a HAM radio with the MARS mod, unlocking GMRS (and other) frequencies. It’s a remote head and a base that you can put wherever.

I dropped CB this year, it hasn’t been an issue yet. I carry a handful of spare GMRS handhelds for the times we need them.

This is the Ham radio and the CB has a remote under the center console with the mic mounted to the right of the steering wheel.

The knob for the door surrounds hold it in if you have a soft top.

X2 the door surround knob replaces the bolt provided by ARR when you're running the door surrounds. With the distance to power I'd go one-gauge larger than that with wires that have a bit heavier insulation. I don't like to have to worry about vibration wearing through the insulation on power wiring. :)
