Which size kinetic rope should I get? (RhinoUSA)

Winter is once again here and after getting hit with a bunch of snow over the weekend I decided I really need to order a kinetic rope to keep in the TJ.
I don’t do any real wheeling so since it’s only going to see very occasional use I’m gonna go with Rhino USA (which I know is not made in USA).
Question is… what size would you guys recommend going with?
Rhino recommends the 7/8” for Jeeps but according to the weights I should really go with the 5/8”.
Since this is a chinesium rope should I go with the 7/8”? Or am I safer having the rope be the weak point?

I’ve never actually weighed my TJ yet, heaviest add-ons would be the 33x10.5 tires with steel wheels, steel rear bumper, and the MORryde kit. I do plan on getting a steel front bumper yet.

Also, going to be ordering a Rhino soft shackle with it. 1/2” or 3/8”?
1/2” - 15,000lb WLL/46,000lb min break
3/8” - 10,400lb WLL/31,400lb min break

PS: Getting a Crosby bow shackle as a backup

Get the 1" and never worry if you bought enough. and get a 3/4" shackle or soft shackle.

I'd get a 30'. If you need it shorter double it up.

I'd also get Black Magic Brakes soft shackles. Assuming you have someplace with radius edges to attach them. If not, get bow shackles.

We have a 20' 7/8" Rhino in the wife's JK. I do not consider it a primary recovery rope. I don't trust Rhino Not USA. I have a 1 1/8" 30' Yankum in my 3/4 ton Superduty and 20' 3/4" Yankum in my TJ.

Short lengths are great for light tugd backwards after someone rams into a snow bank trying to make progress.

It's a miserable length when 20' doesn't get you far enough back to get traction or any momentum.

My 10 cents. Lots of mistakes on my YouTube Trash and Trail channel.

Totally understand you don’t want junk when it comes to recovery gear but I do think something is better than nothing especially when it won’t be seeing frequent hard use. Any of the good ones are just too expensive to get to Canada.
I may upgrade down the road once it’s in the funds, just want something now.

The shackle tabs on my rear bumper (they’re through welded) do not have a radius edge so maybe I’ll just get a bow shackle for now then in summer round off the tab edges and get a soft at that point. Just like the safety aspect of the softs.

I had wanted a 30’ but it’s a stupid jump in price from the 20’, I do have a tow rope that I could use as an extension if needed.
So back to my main question…
Should I go for the 5/8” or 7/8”?

3/4” is the proper diameter for a TJ. 30’ is desirable.

Agree to disagree. Junk is useless if it sits in your Jeep until you really need it and it breaks, fails or doesn't work.

I've done search and rescue. I've pulled people who thought they were prepared and ready out of the woods. I've also gone looking for their bodies.

I'd do 7/8". I'd say a 7/8" Rhino not USA is equivalent to a 3/4".

Have fun! Part of having fun is making mistakes.

If you don’t have anything you’re not getting out regardless, I’d trust the Rhino to last at least one round. It actually did okay in Project Farms review.
But ya I’ll agree to disagree, and I will plan on upgrading to not junk at some point. ;)

As long as those mistakes don’t cost too much bank haha…
Thanks!

We have an offroad recovery group in our area that pulls people out on a weekly basis. It is sand and clay on some of our beaches that requires 4x4 to get to most places. I asked them what they use and most use Rhino 30'. I got the 7/8 30' that I carry in the TJ. Have not used it yet but I just purchased it.

So I was about to order the ⅞” Rhino but I actually I came across the GearAmerica ropes… any opinions on those?
Made in USA and reasonably priced for what they look like.
If they get the green light from you guys… 3/4” or 7/8”?
GearAmerica 3/4” UTV Kinetic Rope
GearAmerica 7/8” Kinetic Rope
Same deal as the Rhino, 3/4” is closer to the weight of a TJ but advertised for UTVs. 7/8” comes in a 30ft so I am leaning that way.
Only thing I’m not a fan of is they don’t give a WLL.
Thoughts?

They look decent but all their ropes are presently sold out along with a lot of other stuff. Waiting for the more experienced members to chime in.

Amazon.ca says 10 left.

$120 (CAD) more than the Rhino but 30ft and made in US. If y’all think it’d be a solid option and worth it over the Rhino I’ll go for it.

Just looked out of curiosity and I guess I could’ve got the 3/4” for $70 cheaper… but only a 20’.
Was the 7/8” the right choice?
I can still cancel if you guys would recommend the 3/4” with some kind of extension on hand.

Run with it... you're good.

Let us know how it goes! I don't know that brand and am curious!

What is the downside of larger kinetic rope? Less "stretching" on a pull? The extra length should help make up for that though.

So long as you can still power gently to a stop and hold tension i don't see an issue. I know in mud and sand it takes time for a rig to come loose. Stretch straps are easier on both rigs.
