Why do I always do something stupid?

the wait for axle shafts is still long.

my new fronts finally showed up, so i excitedly jumped right on them. while tightening the lug nuts, i noticed the sheet metal dust covers that go behind the unit bearings.

i cried a little. let's hear who would tear it all back down and install them, and who would just wait till at least the calipers needed to come off

Consider that a practice run. Now take it apart and put them on!

I'd sigh and tear it back down. For as much of a redneck as I am, I'm not one to do a job halfway. Ultimately I'm always happier to have things done right than to save some time.

If you are just talking the dust shields. Toss them and don't worry about it.

Now that you've done it, it goes pretty quick. I bet you could do it in half an hour per side.

I did the same thing, but my shields were rusted to hell. left them off and it has been about 6 months with no issues that I can see.

Haven’t ran dust shields in 6 years or so and it’s been fine

I'd walk away for a day or so until I got my pissed off at myself happy ass calmed down. Then, like @97TJNM I'd sigh, maybe grumble a bit, and put the damn things on...

I did the same thing.

Tore it all down and put them on.

About an hour later I realized I had flipped left and right...

Tore it all down again...

I even had pictures.

Stupid always happens when I get tired.

well, you guys are about 50/50, so i'm going to sleep on it. my biggest grief was the axle nut again, but i just realized i can leave the shafts bolted to the hub and pull as one.

I put 50 miles on my brand new Ax15 with the fill plug only finger tight. Only found it because there was some nice clean oil hanging off my skid plate.
