Why do my rear wheels rotate freely on jackstands?

freely when on jack stands. Rig is in park and rear wheels still turn, Why is that?

Is you JKU limited slip?

What you should have noticed is when you spin the wheel clockwise the opposite wheel will turn counter clockwise, at the same time you will also notice the driveshaft is not spinning.
This is normal operation for an open differential when both wheels are off the ground.

Your JKU probably has a limited slip differential hence why it functions differently
