Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

New Hydro-Vac return line made. Ran this one over the top of the reservoir bracket. The previous line had a sharp bend in it when I had it running under the bracket. Which is why I think it blew.

Got to relook at the brakes. They're still softer than I'd like.

Did you try to gravity bleed the brakes before your daughter helped pedal bleed them?

I'm not the resident brakes expert here ;).... But when I put in my full new brakes system starting with the lines at the master through all new calipers, I gravity bled everything first using a kit like this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CMDP44/?tag=wranglerorg-20

Kept it above the horizontal line of the master to force the air up and out.

Brake Bleed on Homer

Once I did this, it was a quick bleed when my wife helped and had a firm pedal. Still bled a couple more times after overnight or long sits to be sure it was fully bled.

Sharing my experience. Maybe someone (who? ... 🤷‍♂️) here who is an expert will way in...

That's odd a return line blew. Various pickups I've had with hydroboost used a hose clamp to keep them on.
I've had trouble with that style of fitting you're using on tractors. I kept fiddling around until they hold for some reason?

Well it blew power steering fluid all over the place. I think the bend I had in it before was causing a restriction. It's all fixed now and I hope I won't have anymore issues with it or any of the other lines. And I was mistaken it isn't the return line but the pressure line.

And I found the problem with my brakes....... I'll post the picture once they finish down loading.

I pinched the front brake line that I have running along the upper link between the motor mount and link. So I'd lost my front brakes as I was pulling it back into the garage. Here's all the brake fluid I leaked out in my driveway. I think I've got a spare line that is the correct length. If I do I'll replace it in the morning.

I've got one of these brake bleeder kits arriving tomorrow. Then I won't need my daughters help to bleed my brakes.

I've used ones like this before and they work really well since it's pressurizing the master cylinder and pushing the fluid through the lines.

Edit: I guess this is why we have these road tests and how little things can cause all sorts of issues.

Given you're in WA, I'd suspect that's an environmental fine in the mail coming your way...

But then you state you have no emissions there (and I get jealous)....

So I don't know what to think... ;)

Glad you found it was easy to identify!

I've seen those pressurizing systems and used a lot on the YT folks I follow. Haven't dipped into it yet as a tool I need in the toolchest - but I've been proven wrong on that front before... 😄

Gravity worked on this older Jeep - May need one if I get to working brakes on a newer vehicle with ABS...

I've done the gravity bleed before but I've got so many UPS & DOWNS in my brake system now that I'm sure it wouldn't work now. I had brakes to the end of my driveway and then things started getting spongy again. Then as I was pulling back up I was like WTF???? And that's when the line started leaking I'm guessing.

Then I was pumping the brakes after I'd pulled inside thinking it was air in the lines and that's when that power steering line blew. So at that point I couldn't see the brake fluid anymore. After I'd repaired the power steering line I was messing with the brakes and found the slow leak in the line on the upper link.

Sounds like a sign... ;)

Stopped you from going further to fix the brakes and then those others...

End of driveway is a step. Next one is the end of the neighbor road.

... Then you fuck the road and just keep driving into the dirt at the end of the neighborhood road!

That's how a test drive goes. Right @Apparition ?

I'm REALLY glad I wasn't doing 40 MPH when that line went... I'm sure the rear brakes would have stopped me but I'd need to change my underwear.

Off-Road is going to be after a few around the area type trips first to make sure everything is OK. Then I've still got to figure out the engine skid supports before I go off-road.

Rick, I noticed you aren't running high pressure hoses on your hydroboost brakes. I had to run all high pressure hoses from the PS pump to the hydrooboost, and hydroboost to my orbital. Did you run those hoses previously?

No previously I was using the field repairable lines that came with the kit. The lines that PSC send with the reservoir are push fittings.
I'll have to go back and look at the info from Vanco and see if it says anything but I don't remember there being any words of caution.

Edit: CPE fittings & lines are rated for 2,000 PSI working pressure & 6,000 PSI burst pressure.

Edit: #2 Went to Evil Energy's website and the hose and fittings from them are rated for 1,500 PSI working pressure. Not sure what the difference is between theirs and other manufacturers.

New brake line installed. I only had one that was 2" longer than the one I was replacing. I'll order a new shorter one but this gets it on the road and the extra length isn't a problem.

Here's the problem spot.

And the new line on the Jeep.

While I was waiting for UPS to deliver the brake bleeder kit I fixed the USB connector for the phone charger. It'd worked It's was loose so I fixed it.

Then I'd already used daughter power to bleed the brakes when UPS showed up.

I'll have to wait to play with my new tool until later.

OK do I tease ya'll with a video where you have to just look at my ugly mug???? Around 10:30 in the video after I'd turned around you'll hear it missing and sputtering. Then the check engine light came on. When I got back home I pulled the codes & got a P0339 which is the crankshaft position sensor intermittent. Looking online I'm finding most advice is that it's either wiring or the sensor. Since this is a new wiring made by HotWire I'm going to suspect it's the sensor.

Where is the crank sensor on a Gen 3 Hemi?

The crank sensor is located on the passenger side of the block behind the starter motor.

Based on this I'll take a look at the wiring and routing of it and see if it got too close to the header. Also the check engine light was on in the donor Jeep before I pulled the Hemi & I don't think I ever checked the codes or it I did I've forgotten what they were.

The GoPro video is uploading onto YouTube and is @ 38% right now. Once it's loaded I'll post a link to it.

It sounded way to quiet! :)

In some ways I miss that burble the Magnum engine had but the Hemi has it's own exhaust note. And spending a day on the trail with this engine will be a lot more tolerable than the Magnum was.

Indeed. I know I've grown old when I want a quiet an efficient exhaust! : )

You & me both... I used to LOVE that sound. Same with my Harleys. Now I want to know I've got something there when my foots in it but when cruising a little quieter is nice.

Watching my data log file from the test drive I'm running right around 200* ECT and the 25* higher than ambient temperature. It was around 68-70* outside and It was the IAT was 90-95* most of the time.

I've got to relook at my O/D switch and how I've got things wired since the O/D button isn't working.
