Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

Been there.....

I really dislike the cleanup afterwards... But it's the dried mud falling in your face for the next 10+ years that really gets to me. When I just replace the door seal on my drivers door I was vacuuming and blowing mud out of it that's been there for 12+ years.

I got plenty of muddy pics of my own… Mud is a part of life, wheeling up here.

I know I budget like $25 for the self serve car wash after every trip. $23 to pressure wash the Jeep, another $2 to then wash the bay 😅

I wash in my driveway. The added dirt never hurts. I put a sprinkler under the Jeep & let it go to work for a few days. I'm paying the water bill..

And YES I'm well aware of the fact that if you live in the PNW and want to wheel you're going to be dealing with mud at some point.

I used to clean the Toyota in driveway. Usually took about an hour

Way back in the day when I had a Nissan pickup I'd gone & competed in a mud drag & mud hop so was washing my truck in my driveway on base & had the MP's come up & tell me I wasn't allowed to wash my truck on -base housing when it was that dirty. About the same time I'm yelling at my son telling him he can't drive his Power Wheels Jeep thru the mud, and he's looking at me with that bewildered look as to WTF dad???

Another time I'd been out with the club I belonged to for the Halloween run & my truck was Gray/Black but it was so dirty you couldn't tell. My SGM gave me the day off to go was my rig casue he said he didn't want that dirty thing in his parking lot.

Then when I was @ Ft Ord I was pulling up to the gate and had to clean the mud off my windshield enough for the MP to be able to see the post sticker.

I also pay the water bill and just wash the mud off the driveway and into the street. Rain and vehicles take care of it from there....

I've got a gravel driveway so any additional dirt packed between the rocks is a good thing.

Oops got a little too close to the doorway yesterday when I was pulling out of the garage.

OK onto the brakes again....
I went through and retightened every fitting in the brake system.
Then jacked up the rear axle and put it on jack stands. This way I could put it into drive and test the brakes.
Gave me a chance to also test the steering brakes.
I THINK I've finally got the brakes bled and working properly. I've got to clean things up and get my laptop out so I can do some data logging 🙃.

Video to follow.

Swapped out the remote GPS antenna for the new GPS.

Difference between the two GPS antennas.

The old one locked into a base plate where the new one just screws down.
Had to put in two new holes to get the new antenna pointing in the correct direction.

Then removed one short cable and it connects to the current harness.

I've been bleeding the brakes with a one person bleeder I got off Amazon.

Has a one way check valve and so far seems to be working as it's supposed to.

The trick is to do a few high speed river crossings afterwards

That thing looks so good and super mean. You must feel pretty darn excited to get that thing on the trail. I've been watching this thread religiously for years. Nice work, I can't wait to see wheeling posts! The hemi also sounds killer

Thanks and yes it feel good to finally be getting close. If I can just get these pesky little issues fixed I'd be ready for that shakedown run.

How do you like the sidewinder shifter and the console layout so far?

So far it's not bad. It does take some getting used to since I was used to the stock shifter. I love the console other than losing the center storage & the arm rest. But well see once I've spent a day on the trail what it think.

The clicking thru the gates takes a bit of getting used to. But I like it once it's in each gear. You know it's there and it's not going anywhere.

I'm not sure if I could have put the O/D switch somewhere else that would have been better or not. Maybe should have spent a little more time sitting in the drivers seat prior to drilling the hole for it. But I can find it fairly easy now that I've drive it a few times.
