Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

I'd suggest welding some small "bungs" to the tie rod, on both sides of the clamp. Then the clamp won't move.

I don't have any way to weld to aluminum right now. As I said before I never had any issues with my old clamp sliding but since it's been brought up I'm trying to do all I can to prevent it. The TMR clamp has biters that screw into the tie rod on the bottom. This clamp was actually made for a steering stabilizer so was threaded for 1/2" bolt in the center. I'll install one set screw in that spot.

I'll paint the inside area.

Bedline it

It won’t slide easier. The friction difference is negligible.

Well this started off with a simple question of if I should or should not paint the inside area that contacts the tie rod... Since I don't happen to have any bed liner on hand and I'm not going to run into town to get any I'll just paint the area with the Steel It paint.

Right now I'm going to order some new fittings for my steering assist cylinder and then I'll work on some of my other projects once parts arrive.

I'll have to agree with @FarFire70 about the packaging from Bolt Depot.

Got the fittings I need for the master cylinder from Speedway Motors.

Won't have everything to finish the hydo-assist ram until next Tuesday.

Glad you had a positive experience off the recommendation. I've been impressed - have more nylocs on the way for my build. Their by-hardware vs by-bag is a benefit.

Wait until you order 20+ separate items. Those bags are a life-saver keeping things straight.

How was shipping time from order to delivery for you?

Just so I've got it and don't have to go searching for it... I ordered 2 straight & 2 90* fittings & new hose just to be on the safe side since the hose I have is over 18 years old.

Totally impressed and will be using them a LOT more.

Ordered on Sunday, shipped on Monday & arrived today. Again I'm very happy.

Plan on working on the Jeep tomorrow. The paint came in today also so I can repaint the bumper and the brackets on the trackbar bracket. Plus I need to paint the engine skid mounts. All that can then dry between tomorrow & Tuesday.

I just got the rest of the brake parts for my truck. Now I get to freeze my ass off as I redo the brakes on my truck. But I will admit to liking the idea of being able to stop better again.

Started messing with the hydo-assist ram. Figured out I'd forgotten to order jam nuts for the set screws...

Did a shitty job on the paint. But it's going to get rubbed on rocks so OK.

Set screws should help a bit to keep it from moving.

20241102_011828.jpg

Had a old shock stem nut that was the correct size so I cut it in half. Have 2 jam nuts now.

Cut the two bolts for the hydo-assist ram down to the length I needed. This way it's all shouldered bolt where to heim sits.

Got the axle side ram mounts painted.

Painted the thimble mount.

And the jam nut is installed on the hydo-assist ram.

Now I'm waiting for the new fittings and hose from PSC to arrive Tuesday so I can make new hydo-assist ram hoses.
I've got a appointment Wednesday with my prosthesis to get cast for a new socket.
But I'm hoping I'll have it driving again NLT next Saturday if not sooner.

I don't think I've ever had a underhood light on my TJ since I've owned it... Or if I did maybe it just didn't work? So I'd picked up a LED version but or course the plug wasn't correct. The same plug that worked on the alternator module fits the underhood light. The ONE thing I don't like is that it needs some sort of a On/Off switch for those times when the hood is opened for an extended amount of time. I've still got to try closing the hood to make sure it turns off.

And the plug. I've still got to splice it into the harness.

Mine never worked right. The weighted switch was temperamental so I usually had to tap it to get it to turn on....

Been thinking to install an LED bulb like you did. I also saw someone who ran a strip of flush LEDs on tape up the hood to get increased coverage.

Yours looks to provide some pretty good coverage. Shadows are always the enemy with the under hood bulb. Which is where the LED strip drew my attention.

This is the one I bought off Amazon.

If you need this style plug this is what I used.

I might add a switch to turn it ON/Off with for those times the hood is opened for an extended period of time.

Yes I agree it's got a decent amount of light & while not as good as having LED strips or other undrhood lights I've seen I'm happy with it.

I picked up one of the GM reel style lights to put under the hood, but I haven't got around to installing yet.
Like this one but mine came with a LED bulb.
