Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

@kiwi stopped by today and picked up the York compressor & I also gave him my old Tuffy underseat drawer for his TJ. It was great meeting you.

I was working on the rear axle when he arrived and then worked on it some more after he left. I got the holes drilled & tapped to mount the line locks & the distribution block for the rear brake lines. I've got to find my line cutter so I can cut the brake line & then I can get to making the lines. And then weld on the brackets for the fittings.

Great meeting you too, thanks again for the York and Tuffy drawer.
Amazing stuff you’re working on

Got the upper brake lines made and installed today.

Then I drilled and tapped mounting holes for clamps. Broke my tap on the last hole but it broke after I'd gotten the hole tapped thankfully. Will have to run into town and see if I can find another one now.

I'll work on the lines from the line lock to the calipers tomorrow. I'd threw the stock diff cover on to keep the shavings from drilling & tapping out of it.

Figured out which brake fitting I'd use for the rear axle and then where I wanted the brake line tab.
Ground a small curve in them to fit the axle better also.

Both tabs are welded on.

Then I finished welding the AR tabs on the axle also.

I'd bought this flaring tool that you can use while the brake line is on the vehicle. It works good so I've been using it for these brake lines also.

You insert the tubing into the block

It has a depth gauge that sets how deep the tubing needs to set.

Then you insert this die that flares the tubing. First the F-1 side & then the F-2 side.

This is the flare that it produces.

I'm batting 100 today. I didn't install a fitting the wrong direction on either brake line.

Installed on the axle. Of course all this stuff is going to have to come off again so I can paint the axle before I slap it under the Jeep.

I could have made the brake line on the passenger side 1" longer and moved the tab on the drivers side over 1/2" but I think it's OK the way it is. If I catch on of those lines on something I'm really in the SHIT and most likely done more damage than just a bent line.

I've got tie down tabs to still weld onto the axle and I also got another set of lower shock mounts since I was so close to my fuel tank before so I am thinking about cutting these off and welding on some new ones a little farther outboard than what I have now. Other than that the rear axle is done and ready for paint and the slap under the Jeep..... HOT DAMN...

As I've stated before I can't say whether or not that these line locks will work as steering brakes but it's worth a try. If they don't I'll figure out some place to mount a steering brake setup like @B00mb00m has and just plume in the lines.

Got the tie down brackets installed after playing around with them a little bit. Not a lot of room on the axle to place these things. The fronts will be a little easier. Once the Jeep is driving I'll see if I need to add or change spots on my trailer. 3

Once I was happy with their location I stripped the axle down of all the brake parts and lines. Then I welded the brackets onto the axle. Damn this stuff sure takes me a lot longer to get done than I figured. It was tight getting these on.

Rear axle is finished as far as the welding and now I need to get it cleaned up so that I can paint it. We'll see how far a can of Steel It goes on an axle housing. Next is pull the front axle out and get all the welding done on it too. Then paint it and then I'll have the axles under the Jeep for the final time I HOPE.

Yes I've got some bugger welds on there... Some look good and then I get a booger.

I almost forgot to tape off the breather vent & ARB fitting..... Glad I remembered.

Axle actually doesn't look too bad. We'll see how long it stays that way once I hut some trails with it. I'm sure I'll be dragging that CRD on the rocks since I'm running such small tires.

It is definitely some nice paint, but with how expensive the stuff is, I wish it didn't spray out of the can so fast!

Very true. But at least you get the full can compared to most other rattle cans. I'm curious to see how well it holds up to abuse. I did the steel part of the sliders & my bumpers with it too.

I sprayed the second coat yesterday and then rotated the axle today. Had to take care of my daughters car first this morning which had a flat.
Blew out the sidewall of a tire. Hopefully it's covered by LesSchwab's road hazard?....

Only had a few spots to touch up where the jack stands were on the axle tubes and spots I'd missed on the underside.
