Will my roof rack be quieter without the wind guard?

I bought a Garvin rack for my '03 Rubicon, I get a lot of wind noise now. Iffin I was a betting man I would say the bulk of the wind noise is coming from the optional wind guard itself.
Before I take it off to see, have any of you found that your rack runs quieter with no wind guard?

Any frontal area can cause wind buffeting. I have heard several people came that the wind guard made a lot of noise. Is yours removable or are you going to have to cut some welds? If you can take it off without damage then I would give it a try. Perhaps a different angle would cut down on the noise too.
