https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077D1C72Q/?tag=wranglerorg-20My cable has a few smashed and frayed spots,it needs replaced.
This rope is very cheap and "dyneema"?

I have zero experience with rope rigging. All I've ever used is steel cables and shackles on 4x4s and logging

I could possibly weave in a thimble?

This is a good thread on how to add a safety thimble to your winch rope.

I looked at these shopping a couple of months ago. I found a youtube video where they tested the breaking strength and they seemed to work out ok but they were thicker (thats how they get the strength rating). I just ended up buying TRE. I even looked at purchasing the rope directly and the price savings didn't really justify the hassle.

I threaded in a thimble, no problem. If I was to do it again I might just get rid of that hook and use the metal thimble already there.

I'd go for it, I'd instead splice on a Safety Thimble and toss the hook into your junk box. Splicing a Safety Thimble is easy, there are instructions how to do it all over. Blaine, who originally developed the Safety Thimble, probably includes splicing instructions with his sold at https://www.shop.blackmagicbrakes.c...fety-Thimble-Black-WRG-STD-SAFETY-THIMBLE.htm

I read this full thread and never saw an answer. Why is TRE better?
I don't know if TRE is/was "better" but I can speak for my purchase of TRE gear. I bought the thimble, fairlead and plate holder(?) due to the fact that they were designed by mrblaine. I bought TRE ropes and soft shackles because of the involvement of forum member Ricky Garcia. I no longer recommend and will not purchase TRE after he was pushed out of the company. Wizard Recovery Gear is my preference and recommendation now that mrblaine is offering his recovery gear designs and sourcing rope.

I looked on his site, saw everything but rope. I need a replacement bad. Been seeing them ranging from $70-$800… can’t figure out what makes one better than the other?

Which is precisely why I don't do anodize colors. The only color that does not change when exposed to UV or fade is UV stabile black. Everything else fades or changes color.

Didn’t know UV stable black ano was a thing. I‘ve had may ano bike parts fade, including black. Nice though, since I just installed your WRG thimble and fairlead👍

@mrblaine is this how you are handling rope purchases right now? Been holding off on a thimble, fairlane, and rope purchase until winch rope was listed on your site? Wanting to convert from steel cable.

Yes and no but not really. I have a small supply of 3/8" black (ish) line that I'm using to help folks out who are in dire need. Not enough to put lines on the site for sale, just sort of an emergency stock. If anyone is in dire need, I can help for a bit.

Yup, same I have personally never viewed myself as buying TRE, Sway-Loc, or Savvy. I buy Blaine parts. If he sold all the stuff he has had a hand in direct I would just buy it from him.

I've been using Badlands 3/8" x 80' 12k. The last one I bought about three years ago was $90. I've had no issues with them.

That's what I carry as a backup rope and axillary rope to perform Spanish Burton 2 snatch recovery, 4x the pulling power. All the ropes on Amazon are junk.

What are you using for snatch blocks? Are you concerned about turning one into a projectile?
