Won't Start...

Today while gatting gas, my TJ wouldn't start. I turned the ignition to start and nothing. All dash lights lit fine, battery fine too. I was able to start it by jumping the wires on the starter but also had to have someone hold the key in the Start position to get it to start. Sound like I need a new ignition switch??

Does it crank when you turn the key? If not, I'd doublecheck that your shifter is in Park or N (assuming you have an auto, your profile doesn't specify) before I replaced the ignition switch.

Parts Needed

• Dorman Ignition Actuator 924-704
• BW Ignition Switch CS812

I used a needle nose plier to align the Ignition Actuator with the Lock cylinder when re-installing the lock cylinder.

Tools Needed

• Security Torx bit T-10 (to remove the switch)
• T-20 bit, (To remove the shroud and possibly the Multi-function...

The column ignition stopped working on my 98 TJ.

What are the symptoms of the "ignition stopped working"?

The dealer doesn't offer this so they want to sell you a new steering column.
