Woodrow's 97 Green TJ Moderate Build

I was able to get some baseline data for the stock 4.0L today:

137HP@4587RPM/169ft.lbs. @3976RPM.

This was on a Mustang chassis dyno in 2WD, 4th gear (1:1) with 4.10 gears, 33” tires, 92 octane with stock air box/filter and slightly less restrictive exhaust (detailed above in this thread).

So that’s roughly 24% less than the Jeep 1997 stock numbers at the crankshaft (181HP@4600 & 222ft.lb.@2800).

Alright, this is my new favorite thread, a Golan stroker from NH has is my next major jeep purchase.
So far, I'm happy w/ Golen. The owner, Chad has been very accessible by phone and e-mail and the engine showed up on time. Good looking fit and finish (especially the custom valve cover). They send a link with the motor running on the dyno and a PDF of the output curves.

Been busy. Most everyone knows that story. Still busy. But the stroker has been in the garage for more than a month. Time to commit. As this is new territory for me I’m writing down my steps with notes and taking pics. Got this far in an hour or 2 last nite.

Good tip. Pics and notes already happening. I think I'll tag the various electrical, vacuum and other connections in the engine bay with painter's tape and a sharpie as they come apart.
It looks rust free, should be easy compared to some of these New England jeeps ive seen in shops.

Yep. Not a rust belt TJ. The paint is pretty sun baked but I actually like the patina (makes me less OCD about it). Underneath is pretty solid. Haven't broken a bolt since I've had it.

Everyone else has already offered all the advice I could offer. You are on the correct route and removing the grill is a BIG help in getting the engine out and back in.

Looking forward to seeing what type of numbers you end up with on the dyno.

A couple hours of garage time tonite. Taking it slow. Lots of notes, pics, bags and tags. Relaxing after a long work day. Got the accessories off and a fair amount of electrical disconnect. Next will be fuel, intake and exhaust. Then pull the old 4.0L.

More progress. Everything is disconnected. Just need to unbolt the motor mounts and transmission and lift it out. Unfortunately, I don’t have an E-12 socket for the reverse torx bolts on the top of the bell housing. Didn’t see that coming specifically but expected hiccups in general. So far, pretty smooth though.
