All the fine TJ owners out there I am seeking your advice and wisdom. I'll be putting my daughters TJ back together in the near future (hopefully) and while the body is still off and the drive train is out I'd like to know what should I absolutely do to this rig before putting it back together? While rebuilding my 32RH I relocated the vent and @hear brought up that I should do a temp gauge and cooler, and that got me thinking about the rest of the Jeep. It will be my daughters daily driver and will 95% of the time be on pavement, and knowing my daughter she'll get her kicks "off roading" in what y'all will consider mud puddles lol. Anyway, any suggestions from people that have "wish they would've" at one point in time or another will be greatly appreciated!

Nothing is necessary beyond basic maintenance for a baseline and reliability.

In hindsight, I would've set up a GoFundMe account or planted my tree sooner.

Make sure the wiring is tucked up and in good shape all over. You are in a good position now to access a lot of it.

Check the motor and trans mounts and the front shaft might need rebuilt.

Service the differentials and all.

Be aware, it’s likely not your daughter you have to worry about…it is some boy she lets drive it trying to impress her.

Might want to use Eastwood's system to paint the inside of the frame.

I'd also consider out out boarding the rear shocks. I wish I had done mine while I had the tub off.

If you outboard with the tub off, then you have no idea what the ride height will be on the springs and without the ride height, it is an exercise in futility and guessing. Neither are good for something that needs to be set up fairly accurately. You can already fuck up bolt on shocks, don't carry that over to outboarding.

I've got brand new motor and trans mounts, I have the Dana 35 open right now and axels pulled to put in new bearings & seals & I've replaced the pinion seal - When I opened it up I found a locker the previous owner put in and had already learned from numerous posts here that I would be taking it out and replacing it with the spider gears from my other 35. Sadly both of my rears have 3.07 gears and I'm at a crossroads of whether I finish bearings & seals & put it back together for a later project or drop more money and go ahead and replace the gears now, or look around local boneyards for a 4 cyl rear like I've read people doing here.... And if I catch some little horny ass boy in that Jeep you'll soon see it at an auction with a biohazard sticker on it

I well understand the qualified use of the word IF in the above sentence so temper any responses with the fact I know you used it. That said, the problem with the catching part is we all remember how many things we did as kids and never got caught. ;)

Oh I have no doubt there will 100% be some goofy ass boy in that Jeep making ridiculous promises and declaring his undying love for my daughter - I just hope she’s smart enough not to let that dummy in the drivers seat and that she’s smart enough to take alternate routes to avoid me seeing it 😂

I have a great T-Shirt which says:

Yes, I have a beautiful daughter…

…I also have gun, a shovel, and an alibi.

My beautiful daughter always gets a kick out of that.

Edit: In fact, I just realized that our daughter has a new boyfriend that we are about to meet (our daughter is 30). I am definitely wearing that shirt…🙂

Lmao now I’m going to have to look for that shirt 😂…. I’m sorry to hear about your present situation and I hope it goes well - if you don’t post later tonight I’ll be assuming you’re utilizing the things you have 😬. Prayers for the young lad 🙏🏻

As a dad I think 30 is a good age for a girl to start dating.

Now as a 17 year old boy my view was quite different. I wouldn’t say us boys dated …borderline stalking is a more accurate term.

soooooooooooooooooooo now I'm praying for the end of time
to hurry up and arrive
'cuz if I have to spend another minute with you I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
but God only knows what I could do right now
praying for the end of time
so I can end my time with you.

Oh its cold and lonely in the deep dark night
but I can see paradise by the dashboard lights.

A young guy was sweeping the studio and wanted to be in the music business so bad. He got Meat Loaf to listen to his demo tapes.

Meatloaf said “keep at it”.

So Jon BonJovi did.

Encouragement. A little might go a long way.
