So, my wife does not come to this site (or even know it exists), which is good.

I put together a log book for all of the work done, so I have that and now a build thread.

Few days ago, a guy asked "How much?" I said you can't afford it, ha. He said try me. Made me think, could I get a low mileage and start over, what would I need to break even, and to make $? So, I created this list of upgrades on the TJ. This doesn't include seat covers, and some work on the Transmission (large $, but that's not an "upgrade" per se".

The number was higher than I anticipated, ha.
I will say, the sliders and flares were on the TJ, but everything else I purchased, over a 4 year period, a lot I did and just held until I put it all on actually.

So....for anyone saying "I'm going to budget build", good for you, I've obviously lost my mind, ha. I also think I'm getting a kill switch ordered, asap, ha.

To stress my marriage even more (I'm mostly joking, I'm a lucky guy), I have a CJ5 that I'm buying some things for.....and I've bought some stuff for my son's 2008 JK that I'm getting to 4.56 gears and lockers for when he gets back from his deployment to Europe. That thread Chris has "So you want to run 35's", yeah, ha, well get ready to pony up!!!!

These are the purchase prices new, I got a number of things used like the B&M I got for $200 a year old. The axles, another poster here gave me what I thought was super fair for $4k and I sold my Dana 30/Dana 35 combo for $2200....so $1800 to go to 4.88's, Lockers, and chromoly shafts? Pretty dam fair deal, so I recouped some of the cost below I guess, by being frugal, ha. Also, some of these are "including tax and shipping" so there's some "ish" estimates, but within $20 here or there on big items.

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t go to the Mall, but a lot of cement time, when it drives, will be stereo cranked up, yep, ha!

It gets work at Hidden Falls, about a 40 minute drive from me….and I got 1 more kid to get to college, and then I’ll be built for the Moab TJ Trip, gotta be patient with three kids, ha

TJs aren't the only expensive hobby, I did the same with my Powerstroke, then my motorhome, now my TJ. But I don't regret it, I love them all. The only vehicles I haven't spent a lot on are my wife's Infiniti FX-35 and my VW TDI. The TDI is the stingiest car I've ever owned, cheap to buy, runs on chump change, sound system is great and it's fun to drive. Sometimes I think instead of the TJ I should've looked for a TDI with a MT.

I was keeping track up until about $30k in parts. That was on 35s and a 4" savvy years ago, before I even got to the supercharger... Since I stopped keeping track it's only spiraled since then.

I don't want to think about it anymore.

I have been doing this since day 1. I actually track everything to the cent.

This is definitely a spendy little habit/ addiction/ hobby!

But building your own is more fun than buying someone else‘s build.
