Dana 44 Rear Brakes

Long time reader, first time poster/member so please bear with me.

I practically stole a Dana 44 Rear out of a 2004 (I think) TJ. Non-rubicon axle with factory discs.

I intend to rebuild the whole axle, and have already begun tearing it down, but based on the shape of the braking components, have decided to replace everything including backing plates. Question is what are the best replacement backing plates. From browsing, I've seen BMB mentioned many times, but have yet to get a reply from the company. I see they have Dana 44 disc brake conversion kits and I need pretty much everything included in them, but wondering if this will still work for a factory disc axle.

If you don't have an answer to any query sent, then I have missed it somehow. That said, our current batch of backing plates is not quite the stellar quality we've had in the past. They are okay, acceptable, but not near the same outstanding quality Centric used to supply. The rest of the parts are very good though. I don't know who has the best ones, I do know I would not toss our hat in that ring.

No big deal! I'm just in the process of trying to aquire parts for this winter project of mine. If I use your conversion kit, are there any additional parts I'd need to purchase given the axle was a factory disc setup? That's the only part I'm really unclear on.

You will need disc specific parking brake cables if you don't have them. Other than that, the only things missing are hard lines which you can just bend around to hook up to the flex hoses or cut existing and double flare with the tube nuts that are included with the flex hoses.

If your axle shafts came out of the disc 44 then they have the correct retainers. If not, they need to.
