Half door slider window questions

Found some TJ half door slider window uppers locally. Seller says theyre missing the hardware. Should I buy new frames and new regular solid windows , or buy these??

Askin those who have tried both, and know the pros and cons. I kinda wanna have them to leave my new half doors on that I got recently

Before I even entertain these, is there a place to source the half door window slider hardware??

The ones in the picture are the hard uppers, they require bolts to install them and the treaded inserts. The link is the soft uppers with the posts that just slide into the top of the half doors.

Buy em, if they're a good price. New they go for almost 800. If you decide you don't like em, I'll buy em off of you!

I'm not familiar with what hardware those use? The ones i have used/seen have the 3 posts like a normal window. Anyone know if it's standard ace hardware type stuff? Or proprietary?

I just got a pair so haven't had a chance to use them yet but had some on a YJ years ago. They are nicer during cold months when pulling up to a drive thru or toll booth or other times you need to open a window. And you don't have to worry about breaking the plastic window like you do with soft uppers. And when it's cold outside I've cracked a few soft upper windows.

If the price is right and you've already got half doors then I say go for it.

I wonder what brand those are? When I bought my upper sliders, I found Bestop and Bull Dawg. The Bestop are similar to those in the picture, but the lower front corner of the window is a much smaller radius than that. The Bestop uppers are fabric and use the standard pins for installation, while the Bulldawg are fiberglass and use threaded bolts and new inserts for the doors. I had heard that Jeep sold upper sliders, maybe that's what those are. Not sure what hardware you'd need, though.

I used those hard uppers with a hard top but in maryland with no ac i absolutely hated them. They’re great for keeping heat in and not feeling like a tent but was almost claustrophobic since the window was so small it would hardly fit a fast food bag and wasn’t big enough that even at 65mph you got no wind. If you have ac or live in place that is below freezing all winter they do their job well. I like my full doors 100x better tho. I think I found the hard uppers for 100bucks but then sold them and then traded my half doors for full doors.

@CreepinDeth - If by "hardware" you mean the 3 pins per door that secure the hard uppers to the hard lowers, I made my own. No pics but I used 3/8" aluminum rod, threaded one end of each and screwed on SS acorn nuts. The front pin for each door is shorter than the rear two. I simply put the hard uppers on and push the pins in through into the original sockets. My uppers don't budge and the pins are easy to remove.

I think you can buy complete kits from Dull Dawg (first pic). They are a bit more involved than what I did. The pins and sockets are threaded and no doubt would make the uppers harder to steal than mine. Some even come with locking knobs.

Got full doors and a hard top for winter.

Just got the half doors 2 weeks ago for 3 season usage to primarily keep the half doors on with the soft top., Needed a quick solution for rain VS swappin doors constantly.

Half doors look sooooo much better
This is a weekend pleasure cruiser kinda thing for me til my 2nd one reaches driving age

Yeah, the Bull Dawgs in hot weather with no A/C would absolutely suck. I chose them because the glass is much larger, so visibility with them is very good. I'm either using heater in cold weather or A/C in hot weather, or removing them.

I have a kind of love / hate relationship with my hard uppers. They work fine but I'm just as happy with my soft uppers in the winter. Heat is not a problem, I have plenty. The soft zippers are a bit of a pain in the winter but only if you go through drive throughs (I don't) or want to talk with someone through the window.

Here is my LJ with both types. I painted it in between and haven't got around to doing the hard doors yet. It will be half doors again this winter.

I'm not sure what brand they are. I originally thought they are Bull Dawgs but now don't think so. I bought them used from a guy who also bought them used and thought they would fit his YJ.

They are all fibreglass and are good quality. The windows have a "HEHR" logo on them which is a common brand of RV windows.

This pic shows the 3/8" mounting bolts they came with. I don't know if they are original. As mentioned above I replaced them with aluminum rods capped with SS acorn nuts.

The windows also slide both ways so I can choose to have the opening at the front or back.
