Serious Design Flaw . . . really serious!

All right, I’ll wade into the TJ forum waters with a question about what I find is a very serious design flaw. I’m surprised that there haven’t been multiple homicides related to this problem, or that Jeep owners who have reached the end of their sanity haven’t en masse, driven off the nearest available cliff. In just a few days of Jeep ownership, this dilemma affected me so profoundly that I found the Jeep interior a painfully uncomfortable environment to be in.

Of course, I’m speaking about the non-stop jingling of the window zipper pulls!!

So what have you done to combat this problem? I tried putting some heat-shrink tubing over the zipper pulls and where it did eliminate the noise from the pulls vibrating against each other, they still rattle against the loop on the zipper slider.

Maybe when the weather warms up enough, I’ll just yank the windows and be rid of the problem, but that’s only a temporary fix.

It's a JEEP THING!

I have 1/2 doors with sliding Windows. Not as quiet as full doors, but quieter than the zipper windows.

Be happy you can hear them at all!

I can't hear mine due to 1) my loud interior. It's so frigging loud I have to wear earplugs on long trips. And 2) my hearing is getting so shitty that 'eh?' is my reply half the time any more lol.

Ahh, nothing at all about a TJ is quiet. We take ours on 400+ mile road trips regularly, and it ain't no Lexus. With the hard top and some sound deadening though, I've got it to the point where it's actually not that bad on long trips.

Buy a header and a catback exhaust system and you'll never hear them again.

Living that life. Spend years listening to marine main propulsion machinery run, and hearing a zipper jingle is only a distant memory. On the bright side, I save money on ear plugs! It's amazing how much noise 36,000 SHP generates.

I've only been in a ship's engine room a couple times and it always amazes me how frigging loud they are. I dunno how anyone could work in one with all the noise and heat.

You get used to it pretty fast. Especially if you are a gear head like me. We used to run 100° F and 100% humidity in the engine room even up in the Bearing Sea. You have to realize that you are working INSIDE the engine. The propulsion plants that I worked on were very high performance, as well. You could hear something going wrong way before the instrumentation would show a problem, so you needed to hear the plant operate. We only wore one earplug. Hearing loss was the price you payed to play the game. The payback was the two main propulsion plants would push a 3,200 ton ship at 42.8 knots. Used to love hearing the hot rodders talking about getting 350 - 400 HP out of their engines. When I got tired of listening to them brag, I'd say "Try 36,000 throbbing shaft horse power at your fingertips". It was the bad old days, and I had a bad attitude.
