4” fog light options?

Definitely small enough, curious did you make your own bracket for mounting on top?

Negative,
I ordered a bracket that fit them. For $15 it was hard to beat,

There is a lot of discussion to be had over 'yellow' lenses. Not every yellow lens is the best. Even white lights have a range of options and some colors are more natural than others obviously. I encourage doing a search for diode dynamics lights and any discussions from Bill (screen name ShadowsPapa). He outlines a lot of things regarding different Hughes of yellow, and yellow vs true amber, which is what most think of when they say 'yellow'. A true amber is way better for fog penetration if that is the primary purpose. Not all, in fact few, manufacturers make lights good for that color range. Before you spend $200 on some random name light, even a name brand, I suggest doing searching and reading over there on that topic. You won't be disappointed.

To quote my own post, Bill is over on jeepgladiatorforum. Not here. I'm not sure what sort of discussions about lenses have been had here there might be similar ones. I just know there was significant talk on the other forum about it over several months.

Agreed. And, to make it even more confusing, some bulbs that are advertised as "amber" are actually yellow and vice versa.
Yeah there were a few folks I recall reading that actually did some testing of various options. DiodeDynamics was one of the leaders as far as a street legal replacement goes. They were actually more accurate, from what I remember, than the BD lights with an amber lens. But they were almost too powerful and overtaking the headlights - which creates its own issues.

And a lot of outfits are marketing their spot/flood lights as fog…. Which is what spawned this particular post … and y’all have not disappointed!

Appreciate the details.

These are the ones I got from Quadratec when I used to shop buy from them. During and even after the Covid they got so crappy I promised I would never buy from them again. I put the yellow Mylar on them and the led color and the Mylar give it a strange color. If I had it to do over I would keep the stock lights and but a yellow bulb.

Try some amber Laminx in 4 inch round (I think) on the Quadratec lights. I tried and wanted yellow but thought the output looked odd too. Kind of washed out looking. I tried amber and have been happy with it.

I have a roll of yellow laminex if you find a light you like but want yellow.

Hella FF500 with yellow film. Just took it off after three years of daily driving. It was a bit faded. Took five minutes to take the old off and install a new sheet on each.

@MountaineerTom going to give your idea whirl, appreciate the inputs. Took less than a week out of Delphi- nothing more than two taped together Hella boxes to endure the journey but hey they are here and intact. A few pictures in the unboxing mocking up- one bulb was doa so I will need to get one of those coming and update later with the beam pattern when mounted.

One of my bulbs was dead too.

Do they still seem to have a thin paint job on them? And the huge hole for the wire to go through in the back? 😄

yes, I would say that your description is on point. 👍. German engineering/ India build standards? The hole appears to overly generously sized to pass the blade through on the H3 bulb pigtail vs the cost of doing a wire harness through the housing. It seems like a robust enough unit just very simplistic in the electrical department, don’t think those bulbs are even halogen now that I am looking at the box… I will definitely take your lead and throw some additional paint on them and a dab of rtv.

Cool. I hope they work out for you.

I wonder if they're fake?.German engineering wouldn't compromise its quality standards regardless of where it's built.

I went for Hella FF75 fog pills under the front bumper with a set of Hella 500 driving lights above (in the stock location).

For general reference, fog-specific lights tend to perform best mounted between 10 and 24 inches above the road surface.

FWIW. I feel pretty confident these are Hella products, I would just say they are on the lower end of the product spectrum. Between the packaging, QA inspection label, bulbs, lenses..

Well, I didn't know Hella makes the same product in different quality levels! That's certainly news to me. And, without telling their customers!

Are you referring to the fraud or defective manufacturing?

Well to your point I don’t think their marketing department is advancing that idea, but compare the OEM Hellas I have to the 550 series I have owned to these units I would say there is different tiers. Might be why the only way you see these units is eBay shipped from India…they prefer not to import these??
