Hi!

I just purchased a used 2004 Wrangler 4.0L Sport automatic TJ.

It’s my 1st wrangler in over 30 years ( I’m 61now) and looking forward to making some needed front suspension repairs and other stuff.

I’m also looking forward to all that this site offers and the knowledge of members to guide me in the right direction…when I have a question or two.

Just to be clear..this was a photo of many that the Owners posted as part of there add of this vehicle for sale.

The previous owners were extremely courteous and extremely nice and answered all my question's honestly before I decided to purchase.

I appreciate the offer…however I have to decline that offer for now. This jeep needs a lot of work before thinking about going extremely off road . I do use it for now my daily driver average 300-350 miles per week to and from all my construction sites.
I’m slowly..discovering issues that need attention and repairs, however she feels solid and dependable so far.

Thank you! Will do..I’m now searching many topics..lots of good and new to me info..for an old hot rod engine builder in my younger days…now I don’t do that much anymore..I just work on my own personal mechanical stuff now…that we use on the farm property

Welcome and you will do just fine riding with us Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee folks.

We can do mild to kinda wild so there is something for everyone.

Thanks! Maybe one day..right now I believe I got a read differential internals starting to go bad..

I’m going to jack up and elevate the entire rear (wheels on and above grade), secure the jeep from moving forward (if the body decides to move forward while rear is elevated) and drop off my stands.

Then I’m going to hand rotate each rear wheel.. listen and feel for an unusual noises, grinds, slop ect.

This will be fun to do.. but not so fun if I find something unusual going on and have to further investigate, evaluate and make repairs.

I will start a new thread in correct topic
Once have done this evaluation.

how many miles on your Jeep ? do you have a Dana 35 or 44 ? if it's a 35 they are known to break the spider gears. you might want to remove the cover and look around. wont hurt to do it and change the gear lube anyway depending on your mileage. The spider gears are easy to change my Sahara had a broken one when I got it...

Just rolled forward to 147k
I think it the original rear difference..

If i have time time today.. I will pull the rear difference cover off to inspect the inners.
